Connecting new Airport Extreme to my old TimeCapsule on the network

Hi, hopefully you guys can help. I have the sure type TC, which is connected through WAN to my Uverse router. I also have an airport an airport express base station, contacted in bridge mode to the network, in another part of the house, like a repeater.

I want to install the new Airport Extreme to get faster wifi but want to keep using my TC to back up my Macs. I tried it yesterday, and went nuts for 3 hours. Kept loosing internet.. I had connected the new airport extreme through WAN to my Uverse, then ethernet from my Extreme (lan) to (lan) to TC. Somebody had suggested I create new network. That didn't work. I ended up with 2 networks. Does someone know the steps, and finally how would I switch my wireless off on the TC once everything is working?

Thanks

Alberto

Hi Bob, It was working fine yesterday (Airport extreme )when I connected it. I followed you instructions today, disconnected the TC and Airport Express, connected the Airport extreme to the modem (wan connection) and it did nothing. It disconnected my internet, I let it search for 10 minutes in the utility, it had a blinking Ameber light. I then rebooted the Modem, then reset the modem, still nothing. Finally I got frustrated and reconnected my original setup, as you see form the picture I attached, it it went up immediately, no problems..

So I am stuck... Seems like the Airport Extreme won't take my interent

I'm sorry, but you are going to have to read instructions carefully, or we will make no progress at all.

Now, we must start all over again on the AirPort Extreme unless you find that you made a mistake on an Ethernet cable or something like that. Power off both the Time Capsule and AirPort Express for now, and please spend some time with the AirPort Extreme to see if you can get it working again like it was before.

When it is operating correctly, you will see the globe and the AirPort Extreme in AirPort Utility with a green light on the AirPort Extreme and you will be able to connect devices to the AirPort Extreme wireless and also to the Ethernet ports on the AirPort as well.

Bob, that is exactly what I did. I unplugged power from both TC and Aiport express. Then I plugged in cable from Modem to the WAN on the Airport extreme. It immediately disconnected my internet. The globe said disconnected, and below the utility was searching for a device to the network. I gave this a great dela of time. I unplugged and re;urged in the Internet, got going as I was reviewing TV signal, all button including service, ethernet were green and working on the modem, but still the Airport Extreme was blinking amber, and the Globe was disconnected.I again unplugged the Airport Extreme (all else was power off) and tried it again, nothing.....

I understand what you were telling me, and followed instructions, but the Extreme seemed like it could not make a connection with the internet...

I got really frustrated, and returned the airport extreme... I don't want to waste your valuable time any more, so I rather tell you I returned it to apple,.

This whole thing has been very frustrating.. I do appreciate your help on this!!!!!

I guess I am still confused. Are you now saying that you do not want to try to set up the AirPort Extreme? What is it that you want to do?

Imagine, if all your devices were working correctly, what would your network look like? In other words, starting with your Uverse modem/router, what will connect to what?

Do you want to wait for another user to help you?
