Battery issues on new Macbook Retina 15" Mid-2015 only lasts <3 hours

I have a mid-2012 model and the battery on that lasts ~5 hours assuming I'm just watching movies on VLC and have wifi off, and with brightness at 1/2 bars. Gaming with wifi off will last me about 3 hours.

I just received the new macbook pro retina which advertised 9 hours of battery life. Right now, I only have a chrome browser open, wifi is off. Not watching a movie nor playign a game.

I'm getting 3 hours remaining on the battery meter. As you can see, on Coconut Battery my capacity is above design capacity. I've confirmed only the integrated GPU is being used right now.

So, what is happening to the other 6 hours of advertised battery life? I typically take 4-8 hour flights 2x/week, so bought the battery on the 9 hour claim. ****, would be happy with the 5 hours I was getting before.

Further, the battery % remaining reported on Coconut Battery is varying from the one above by quite a decent amount (~5% on average)

I am seeing the same issues, on my 2nd MBP as well. The MBP I have now, I have been using Chrome only and the battery won't hold a charge. No additional software has been installed, with this one, I noticed the battery issue right away, and haven't bothered to install any software or transfer my files. does anyone have any answers?

Hi Stazi:

I found this link: http://www.omgchrome.com/new-macbook-dont-use-google-chrome/

It basically says that using Chrome instead of Safari reduces battery life by 3 or 4 hours.

Just as a test, why not try switching to Safari and let us know how you make out.

it is a brand new mac - picked it up late thursday, did nothing with it over the weekend, brought it to work yesterday and notice the battery had drained over the weekend, with no apps on. I charged it back to 100%; unplugged it and watched the battery drain while checking email via the browsers (both Safari and Chrome)

the Energy saver settings are on the default settings turn display off after 1.5 minutes; put hard disks to sleep whenever possible and slightly dim when on battery power.

I followed the instructions for the SMC reset and that helped with my mid 2015 MBP i7 2.5Ghz.

Battery was showing less then 2 hours on a full charge, and things weren't working as they should. After the SMC reset (link provided by D.Cohen), things are back to normal and I am showing over 7 hours on a full charge.

Don't listen to the noise about Chrome vs. Safari, this might be relevant under other circumstances, but not at all relevant to this problem.

I think it may have started when I used my girlfriend's MBP 13 adapter accidentally to charge, but I'm not sure. Anyway now I am using Chrome (!!!) and still getting over 7 hours on a FC.
