Will we, if ever, see split view on the iPad Air in the future of iOS 9? If not, why?

Yes, that's called Voice Control. It's an older, less sophisticated voice activation feature.

I have the same query. Why split view will not support in iPad Air 1st generation. It capable to run high end games and application, so why not split view. Android introduced it long back in mobile/tab with much slower hardware than iPad Air, so why 1st generation of iPad Air with 64 bit processor is not able to run this feature? if ram is the cause, can it be optimizable for 1GB device?

Chances are, you are not going to come back to read this post now, because you got the answer that you were seeking. However for other people that might want to read this discussion, I would not hold hope out for any iPad older than the iPad Air 2 to be able to use Split Screen in iOS 9.

Back when Siri was introduced in iOS 5.1.1 for the iPad 3, the users of the iPad 2 were up in arms about not being able to have it on their devices. There were numerous discussions about how unfair it all was and that their hopes were that future iOS updates would allow Siri to be available on the iPad 2. Four years and three new iOS updates later, Siri still is not available on the iPad 2. According to several tech sites, it had nothing at all to do with software. The iPad 2 lacked the hardware for the noise reduction technology that was necessary for Siri to work. The iPad 2 did not have that chip and all of the software upgrades in the world, cannot change the fact that if the hardware can't handle it, it is never going to work.

My point is that if this feature is hardware dependent, and the iPad Air and all of the older iPads do not have the hardware to make this work, it is never going to happen no matter what iOS the device runs.

Well, there is technically nothing there in terms of hardware for holding back the iPad Air. It does have the same screen size, a dual core processor, What else would be needed? The 1GB ram limitation is possible but apple solved that years ago with an optimized OS. Think about this: If I switch between two apps (Or even 3?) on my iPad air, I instantly continue where I left off without the app restarting because all three apps can be still active at once with just 1GB of ram. This will be the same, the only difference is that you can see two of them on one screen.

Picture-In-Picture and slide over both use the same algorithm for how they work, so how are they compatible and split view not?

Now of course quicktime player is less demanding, but what about the apps that support slide over? They can be any app that can be demanding.

The answer is they want you to upgrade to the latest iPad.

If you are double clicking the home button and using the app switcher to go between apps the apps aren't active, they are frozen The iPad had this ability at least since IOS 6 and probably before that.

Because Apple wants us to buy iPad Air 2. Or, may be, Android devices.

I just found out something-

I was in Chrome watching YouTube. The video was based on an assignment for school, so in slide over I had opened MS word. I saw the video and sound coming from Chrome! It was even still loading the comments! Both apps were actually active at the same time.

This just shows that the iPad Air is perfectly capable of Split View. As I said in another post, there is technically nothing holding back the original iPad Air from Split View.

Its ridiculous to spend $489 and the device is already obsolete.

my ipad2 got ios9 but never got siri my iphone4 never got siri would not hold my breath for other older devices eventually getting

features made for the newer models down the line.

Stop buying technology. We live in the Technology age. Tech is obsolete a week before it is announced. Deal with it, or go live under a rock. You're mad that Apple keeps innovating and trying to get people to buy their products so they have money to keep operating and making new products while supporting your product?
