My MacBook doesn't recognise my iDevice after I plugged it in.
I plugged in my iPad 4 (iOS 8.3) into my MacBook Air using an alternative cable but my MacBook doesn't recognise it.

Read the links below but I also recall mention of some "alternative" cables only transfer power and will work for recharging, but do not transfer data.
