I have an i-mac and since upgrading from i-photo to photo's have not been able to export photo's without getting an error messages.
On average it will only export about 2% of the photo's. Can anyone help me as I am really concerned that i cant save by pictures to an external hard drive.

AAsk about nNTFS in the El Capitan forum. I have seen several quesions about a NT FS formatted drive showing as locked in El Capitan. But I never use this format, so I can't help with that.
can you export your photos to a folder on your desktop, then drag them from there to the external drive?
if you cannot export at all, repair the library.

UGH! I tried the procedure to repair the library: Quit Photos app, hold down option-command and double click Photos icon in either the applications folder or dock. I tried both ways numerous times and it consistently opened the Photos app NOT the repair window....?
You have to hold down both keys option-command firmly and keep holding them until the Repair panel appears.
And try to double-click the Photos Library instead of the Photos icon, so it will launch on the correct library.
I was able to get the repair to function, but it didn't accomplish anything. I'm still getting error 1019 when I try to export to my desktop and it's not letting me edit anything. Any other ideas?
Some time later... I think I've figured it out. After putzing around a bit further, I discovered the repair worked, for the most part. The only pix that I can't seem to export or edit in the Photos app are the ones I also have over in Elements (makes sense). I just exported some of those to my desktop and imported them back into Photos and now I'm able to edit and (re)export them.
Geez! If Apple hadn't messed with it's perfectly good batch change feature when they did the big overhaul from iPhoto to Photos, I wouldn't have purchased PSE and probably wouldn't have had all this hassle. I'll export/import the pix I have (just this year's to date) in Elements back into Photos and only use Elements as a more in-depth editor.

If you want to batch-rename the original image files in Elements it would be best to do that before you import the photos to Photos.
