2015 Retina Macbook Screen Flicker

My new Retina Macbook screen flickers intermittently throughout the day. I haven't be able to peg it to any specific software or use situation and resetting the PRAM doesn't seem to help.

Anyone else experience this? If it's just a new product firmware problem, I'll just wait, but if it's possible it's hardware, I'd obviously like to get it addressed.

Thanks for your advise. Today I have tried disabling automatic graphics switching anyway from the energy settings. In this case it still has the flicker problem. And I also try the gfxCardStatus application. When I set both the Discrete Only and Dynamic Switching type. The problem still exist. But if I set the Integrated Only the problem was gone. So It will be the discrete graphic card's problem. I bought such an expensive laptop and I can't use the discrete graphics. This really makes me angry. This weekend I will try to reinstall my OS. If the problem still there, I think I should go to the Apple Store and ask genius for a reason.

From the previous posts on this thread, I don't think Genius will be able to help you. People even got replacement laptops and the problem still persists. It feels like this issue was caused after Yosemite though, as I don't recall having it before.

I have a similar problem on my Macbook Pro Retina mid 2012 but it had only started a few months ago, noticeably after upgrading to El Capitan. The problem is not as severe as the example shown in the video above and would normally start after waking up the computer or after starting or restarting it. It would eventually go away after around 15 minutes.

I first thought that my machine was getting old until I start googling about the problem which led me to here. For me I think it's a software issue.

The same flickering problem happens to my mid-2015 15" RMBP. One of the replies mentioned that, for the 2015 models, the problem is with the discrete graphic card. There doesn't seem to be any solution yet, and let's see how long it takes for Apple to even notice this and start some sort of replacement and recall program...

PS. The application, gfxCardStatus, has disabled the feature to allow using the integrated graphic card, with a reasonable reason (see their website).

Add one more to the list.

MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015). I'm not sure my issue is as frequent as many of you.

It happens 2-3 times a day (i work all day with the laptop). I noticed it while on the integrated graphic card.

I was hoping for a solution, but it seems like it hasn't been solved yet. I'm on a fresh install of El Capitan. Laptop is about a month old.

EDIT: i just noticed there is an update on El Capitan to 10.11.3. Hopefully this fixes it.

I have the same problem.

I bought a computer in november 2015 and after a few days it started flickering. It seems to happen mostly when I use imgur/reddit (possibly because I spend a lot of time on those!) A timeline of the issue:

1) Did clean install under apple genius suggestion, still flickers

2) Replaced motherboard, still flickers

3) Replaced computer.

Even with the new computer the screen flickers. It looks like it's the upper half mostly, but it might just be how it looks to me.

The fact that replacing the motherboard didn't improve the flickering makes me think it might be a software issue, so I am hoping that with updates it'll stop. In the meantime I'll buy apple care...

Please share if you manage to figure out the problem.

Thanks!

Mid 2015 MB Pro Retina 15 inch. El Capitan.

Short flickering and a slightly shaking screen when i use the cursor to move items and when i zoom in and out in Adobe CC apps.

Connected to a Thunderbolt Display worse more often and more random.

Did all the stuff: clean install, pram etc etc. Went back to Yosemite and Adobe CS. Same problem.

Then i noticed that connected to my old Cinema Display all above disappeared!

Now i'm working on my Mid 2015 MB Pro Retina screen with the mini display cable from the Cinema Display in the macbook's Thunderbolt 2 port.

And all the flickering and shaking screen is gone! I can't understand the correlation and it's not the solution cause i can't drag the

Cinema Display with me all the time. With this comes a new phenomenon: a overheated macbook and a fan that doesn't stop.

Can someone make chocolate out of this? Thanks!

Yesterday my Macbook Pro Crashed 3 times with a flickering Display and Lines / Fractures on the Screen.

Hardwaretest says "No Error".

I Am usually working with an external Monitor, i didn´t have any problems before. Yesterday i worked on the Mac itself.

Apple Support told me, if the Hardware is okay, i should have to wipe the disk and install a clean os.

This is actually not possible, because i have to work, and i cant imagine it will solve the problem.

I've been to several forums and such on the web looking for an answer as this has been an increasingly frustrating issue for me with my Mac. I found on site that said it could be related to WiFi.

While there can me a host of things that cause screen flicker...

Using my 2012 Retina 15inch MB Pro and an iPhone hotspot.. I just confirmed the described issue, in my case, is associated with WiFi. I turn WiFi off (on the Mac) and the flicker stops. It doesn't matter if the hotspot is enabled or not on the iPhone. I turn WiFi on and the flickering starts again in seconds. I don't see a need to replace motherboards and displays as other than the flickering everything works fine. It sounds like a firmware or software update associated with WiFi is in order... Can the super techs at Apple confirm this?
