Just open System Preferences, Printers, look at the list of printers and find the one that is "in use" (it should give the status under the printer names) click on that printer, then click the button to open the queue and you should see a job there, click on the job, then the x at the end of the progress bar. Should do it. Did for me! Thanks Pmintz25!

Thanks to all for these posts. Had the same problem and fortunately knew to check Activity Monitor as I searched what was going on. There I was able to find the bizarre HP transport entry. Pink Panther once again nailed the problem by directing us to the rogue Hewlett Packard printer entry in printer preferences. Once I eliminated that renegade, peace restored.

You might want to start your own post since this one is from last year. A new post would be much more visible. You can link to this one.

If you haven't done so already, try resetting the printing system.

Hey thanks guys. I had this problem too and my Macbook Pro was over-heating even when I shut it down and started it again.

I went into the Activity Monitor, found com.hp.devicemodel.TransportProxy and tried to quit it. I tried a couple of times and nothing worked so I went to my Printer settings and saw my HP printer was in use (even though I'm not connected because I'm currently sitting in the labour ward at my local hospital waiting for my wife to give birth) .

I deleted the printer from the list and my Macbook Pro fan stopped within a minute. Back to normal, mac has cooled down, CPU isn't 347% anymore and the battery has stopped draining at triple speed.

Thanks guys.

P.S Baby boy is fighting to get out so won't be long......
