Has iTunes match gone haywire?

My music artists are all over the place, I noticed it this morning. Just out of blue on all my iOS devices. It makes no difference if the metadata matches for artist, album artist, sort by artist, sort by album artist, ensure compilation is unticked. Many songs are coming up in strange places on the artists view in the iOs devices. Lots of entries under various artists popping up. I have a list of cliff Richard four times under artist as an example - its just crazy. Happened out of nowhere. I only really noticed earlier as back to work started listening to my songs but ic ould of been at the weekend it went all wrong. My iTunes library is perfectly sorted. anyone else seeing strange entries crop up amid their artist list. Could the impending Apple Music be wreaking havoc with match?

Something is seriously wrong with it. All iOS devices are showing split artists despite perfect metadata. I even checked the artist list in iTunes view and they display correctly on here. Adam and the Ants as example shows FOUR times. A single album is split under the four listings. in iTunes I just highlighted all the songs to ensure I re-edited the artist and album artist correctly and was exactly the same. I also ensure compilation was unticked, yet no diff.

restarting match on the ios devices makes no diff either.

This is madness

I also take pride in tagging tracks etc, I've been collecting music for years, Ditched CD's etc to go all out digital, Took me months to rip and upload so I know what i'm doing with iTunes. It'll drive you mental trying to re-tag tracks to try and sort this. I gave up satisfied that the library on the Mac is still ok. Its an iOS issue without a doubt. I'm wondering if this will be left until the next iOS update?? The new Apple Music streaming service... There has to be a connection to this mess-up? I'll tell you one thing. If Apple can't deliver a better service soon I will be going back to the old way of transferring music onto my iOS devices and cancelling iTunes Match. I'm not interested in Apples new streaming service either! What a wind up!!!

Yeah i've also spent countless hours ripping my CD's, amending meta data, adding album art and uploading to itunes match. Everything was tinky-boo last time i checked my music app - and i know my library is perfect on the pc - somethings definitely gone wrong on apples side. hopefully a fix will come, and hopefully others with the same problem (there must be?!?!) will post here to build some weight behind the issue.

I am thinking it is likely to be linked to apple music. It's so frustrating, I am quite happy ticking along with match at £25 a year. I don't want to pay an extra £10 every month ontop of countless other domestic bills. So I will avoid apple music. For me match is a good solution as my whole library is available to me at all times. I don't really listen to radio, stream. I like what I like and I only buy the odd song here and there, so match suits my needs. At least it did until this. It's pretty shambolic. Hopefully apple will push a cloud based fix but I think we all need to contact support when time permits to get the message out to them.

I was already dreading iOS 8.4 and what the apple music app will be like as a result - it seems the difficulties have begun even before it's release!

I started a thread on http://forums.macrumors.com/threads/itunes-match-gone-haywire.1894217/ and someone else has added their voice. I think the problem is widespread and we are slowly coming out of the woodwork.

I can confirm that this is a problem with Match. Want proof? Just go to one of your problem albums in iTunes, highlight all the songs in the album, and try changing the album artist to ANYTHING else (call the album artist Match Test if you want). Then update Match. Now check your device. The album in question will not take the info you just entered. It'll still be sorted by the erroneous album artist(s). Wow...way to go, Apple. You've made Match unusable...

Words fail me. It is an unacceptable failure on apple's part. Do they not QA test anything these days? They should be able to remotely pick up on these kind of issues. Also I would expect their own employees/engineers to be users of iOS devices and have things like match running. So surely they should see things screwing up themselves. I'm not knocking the support staff I have spoken to, they have been courteous but they want you to go through all the obvious steps that I already stayed up for hours last night doing. It then becomes frustrating to be told all systems are reporting ok and it's the first we've heard of it. Am trying to do my best to direct the senior advisors attention to the forum where there is proof of a widespread issue - I hope this will then get relayed onto the engineers at apple who can actually do something about it. But I suspect iOS 8.4 / Apple Music is higher on the priority list. Of course things will really kick off if people download it when released and the lists are all out of whack like we already seeing.

JJust got home and tried again, updated match in iTunes, still a mess. Then tried highlighting all the Adam and ants songs. I cleared both artist and album artist. Then looked on iOS device music app. It did something as he then disappeared but then I added the album artist and artist back and it made the split artist listing come back. Apple have seriously messed this up !

it's so disheartening. I tried disabling and re enabling match for the umpteenth time but it still loads in the same mess, duplicated artists, split albums, various artists listings full of songs under most letters, artists under the wrong letter in some cases - such as roxy music listed under B. really frustrated as my music means a lot to me.

Hi All,

Has anyone heard from Apple in regards to this issue? I just started getting the same problems with ITunes Match as there are duplicates of Artists and under the wrong letter as well.

I have been searching for answers and all I find is that this is happening to a few people. I want to call Apple to find out, but before I did, I wanted to see if there has been any progress with you all.

Thanks!

TThanks for notifying. This is a very real issue. I see the same album splitting plus all the problems under the artist view (which is the view I use most). Would you also be willing to contact apple support on this issue. The more of us that raise it the more chance apple will take it seriously and do something about it. Something cloud side has pushed this sorting mess to out iOS devices. Only Apple can fix the problem they have created. Although I am emailing an advisor I suspect priority is deemed low. That's why we need as many of us as possible to be raising it. For a paid subscription this is an unacceptable problem

HHas anyone tried disabling match on their device and then turning off match in iTunes and then back on forcing a rescan of the library? After that re enable match on your iOS device. I tried this the other night when I first started seeing the issue and it made no difference but I wonder if others might have more luck and report back. Other than that we need to continue sharing our issue to try and make apple take notice and issue a cloud based push/fix to our iOS devices

I also wonder what trigger point might have caused the mess. Obviously the main trigger is Apple's cloud. But as you probably know when you launch iTunes on the pc or mac match will update and send information to apple at intervals of 7 days - there is no way to prevent this, even if you cancel the process it will try to do it again next time you launch iTunes. So when I switched on last Friday this happened as usual and apple delivered back the results. Ok, I didn't notice the mess on my device until Monday so it may have nothing to do with it. But am curious, as probably quite a few people don't launch iTunes much so as a result this weekly match update wouldn't of happened for them. And as a result this may not of triggered their devices into a mess. Of course, total speculation on my part.

I do also wonder if older iOS versions have the same problems and whether this is iOS 8.3 specific. I only have up to date devices. All I know is iTunes pc = library is fine, Apple TV 2nd Gen running match = library is fine, iPhone 5S = library is a mess, iPad 2nd Gen = library is a mess
