some emails don't go into sent folder

I am running the latest version of Yosemite on a MacBook Pro Retina 15" and just recently when I email this one person and include an attachment of a PDF, that email does not go into my sent folder after it is sent. I know that it does get sent because that person will reply to the email but it is no where in my sent folder which is not good if I need to access that attachment on my iPhone or iPad.

Why is this happening? Is there a new but within Mail? Because I also have a new problem that used to happen with a previous version of the OS where once I attach that file, I can then no longer save over that file or delete it and empty the trash as long as Mail is open. I get the message that it is in use and I have to quit Mail to do anything with it.

It's not just PDF's but anything. In my case it's JPGs.

It seems we all have CC 2015 installed so that must be the culprit. Or at least the PDFs that it creates, Mail doesn't like them for some reason.

Jpeg attachments and zipped folders containing jpegs are what's not going for me.

JPG's work for me (just tested). Only happens with PDF's. Need to get back to work, hopefully someone from Apple will see our discussion and get us a fix. In the mean time, I am waiting for the messages to appear in the "Recovered Messages" then manually moving them to Sent.

If you attach just a single JPG then mail works as expected. It;s when you add several (I did a test with 10 that only had a overall size of 3MB) and it would not save a copy into sent times so it's not just PDF's.

Question Davidrolph: the jpegs that work for you, are they saved by a CC 2015 program or no? The jpeg that went through for me was not saved by a CC 2015 program. And if I drag the emails from the recovered folder to the sent folder they disappear for me for good. They will no longer be in recovered or in the sent.

Nick B: I'm wondering if your jpegs are touched by a CC 2015 app.

See where I'm going here with this? Wondering if it is only attachments that are saved by CC 2015 apps regardless if they are jpegs or PDFs.

Multiple JPGs don't work - confirmed. Works with one JPG, but multiple don't. Also tried an old PDF form 2009. Doesn't work, so its not just PDFs made with CC 2015.

BTW - the multiple JPGs that did not work were downloaded from iStock (low-res previews). I doubt they have resaved everything using CC 2015...

No, its not just jpegs created from CC 2015.

OK, there goes that logic. Well, the one common thing though is that we all updated to CC 2015 soon before this started happening.

Just as others have said, it only happens to me when sending PDF's. Not sure why. Hope Apple finds a solution. It is hurting my business.

Just wasted an hour and a half of my time talking with Apple Support. They don't have a clue why it's happening. This is absolutely unacceptable. I will just have to switch to gmail now.

This seems to be solved for me. How about the rest of you? I spoke with a senior apple support technician a couple of weeks ago and he sent this issue on to the Apple engineers and several days later it seemed to have fixed itself.

I have been randomly experiencing this problem for the past couple of months. A couple emails had attachments of PDFs created by OS X (save as PDF from Word), another had a jpeg, two others had .png files which were screen captures.

In each case I had the recipient forward the email back to me to confirm they received it, yet the message does not appear in the sent folder. If I forward the message to myself, it appears in the sent log. The only pattern I see is the email always has a PDF, jpeg or png attachment, but does not do it consistently.

I am running 10.10.5.
