Time Capsule taking down my internet connection

As soon as I plug in my TC, within seconds, my internet connection is disconnected. (Note: All network device connections are wired).

Here is what I see in AirPort Utility:

And here is what I see on a Windows PC:

I've tried connecting directly to the AirPort Express Base, bypassing an Ethernet switch there. And directly to the Netgear gateway.

I've tested the ethernet cables.

I've tried resetting TC to factory default settings.

I've powered down all network devices and brought them back up sequentially.

And I've tried connecting several different TC's that I have, a Gen 1, Gen 3, and a Gen 4.

All that with the same outcome. Powering the gateway off and back on re-establishes the connection. Without the TC, Wi-Fi is good with both AE's functioning normally.

Any idea what's going on here? Guesses are OK.

Success. I have both TC's setup now.

I do have several related questions before closing out this thread. I now have to decide which TC above to retain as active. I only need one at a time so will disconnect (and 'Forget' in AP Utiility) the other one, setting it aside as a spare. When I do that 'Forget' and drop it off the screen (let's say it's the Gen4),

  • Will any of the Configuration settings be retained? Or will I have to go through the entire setup routine again in the event I need to use it again?
  • If I Export its Configuration File now, would having the ability to Import it back in at a later date allow me to bypass setup?

Why not just leave it disconnected.. when you forget it, you do have problems to get it back.. you will need to reset it factory and start again.

Anyway even forgetting it you will find it ghosts its way back into the utility.

Since, as you know, I play with a pile of these my airport utility always looks something of a mess.

Unless you are sitting there with the airport utility sitting at the front of your screen .. what do a few ghosts matter??

Yes, I always recommend people do that as a matter of course.. once you have any router setup to your liking take a snapshot of its settings.. export configuration can speed up getting things working again.. as long as your network hasn't actually changed layout..
