Previously loaded music is missing after IOS 8.4 upgrade

After updating to IOS 8.4 my music previously loaded on my phone from iTunes is gone as are my playlists.

It looks as though the space is still allocated on my phone, so the music must still be there.

The only music that shows are the songs I purchased.

How do I access my music or how can I clear the allocated space?

iPhone 5s, iOS 8.4

I have the exact issue and it might be the deal breaker. I have most of my music loaded from vinyl and organized by key playlists. All gone. Most of my music you can't get on itunes with the crisp vinyl sound. All gone.

It's been recommended to try an load from itunes off a computer but I'm waiting to see if there are any better suggestions. (There's an update waiting on my computer as well.)

Another suggestion is to restore to the latest back-up however if you are using icloud back-up you may be screwed.

Tim Cook should just go ahead and rename Apple - Comcast. Because they keep getting crappier and crappier without providing any value.

Just figured out the problem after being on the phone with a nice apple person who didnt know either but between the two we figured it out. down at the bottom go to Playlists. on drop arrow beside all playlist, tap. Make sure that show music available offline is turned OFF. My music magically appeared after that. also i found that to shuffle etc. tap on a song then swipe up. the cross arrows are there that will let you set to shuffle all songs. was hard to figure out but it now is working correctly,

If all else fails, I've heard some people are seeing good results with the following steps:

  1. On the iPhone/device, go to to Settings > General > Restrictions.
  2. If Restrictions are disabled, enable them (be sure to write down the passcode you create).
  3. With Restrictions enabled, go to Settings > Music, and then Settings > Podcasts, and Settings > iTunes U (if it appears) and check if the option "Explicit" is enabled for each of these. If it's enabled, turn it off and then back on again.
  4. After all this, turn Restrictions off again, and go to the Music app to see if there’s been any change.

Seems strange, but give it a go and let me know if this helps!

Sorry, that may work initially but I upgraded my iphone on a Sunday evening, resync'd it with my MAC. Everything's good all week. Everything's good the night before the performance (Saturday evening). Then Sunday morning (a week since the upgrade), everything's gone. I specifically did the upgrade a week ahead of the performance in case there were problems. I don't know what happened. I didn't take any other updates that night or morning before the performance.

Same thing happened to me and it's so freakin' frustrating. Lost all my playlists while I was on vacation. I'm home now, at my computer, and here's how I fixed it.

Connect your phone to your computer (I'm on an iMac), open iTunes, click on the device (I have an iPhone 6+). Under "Settings" on the left (not On My Device) click "Music" and select "Sync Music"--> "Selected playlists, artists, albums, and genres". This looks more like the screen I've used in iTunes for years. I was able to put the playlists back on my phone.

I've been a huge Apple fan and have had an Apple computer since the mid 80's. I have an Apple tattoo on my hand! But the quality of their products has really declined in the years since Steve Jobs' death. They need to work smarter and put out innovative products without glitches and that are intuitive, or they are going to fall behind and become another giant that fell. I really don't want to see that happen. Apple!!! Fix these problems!!!!

Same issue here. Spent several hours last night looking for solution to recover my music on my iphone. Getting a message that I had to have a wifi connection or cell data turned on. Even with wifi connection, the library was empty/gone. The free space bar at the bottom of the itunes window for the device showed the storage was being used by "Other".
