Previously loaded music is missing after IOS 8.4 upgrade

After updating to IOS 8.4 my music previously loaded on my phone from iTunes is gone as are my playlists.

It looks as though the space is still allocated on my phone, so the music must still be there.

The only music that shows are the songs I purchased.

How do I access my music or how can I clear the allocated space?

iPhone 5s, iOS 8.4

I have the exact issue and it might be the deal breaker. I have most of my music loaded from vinyl and organized by key playlists. All gone. Most of my music you can't get on itunes with the crisp vinyl sound. All gone.

It's been recommended to try an load from itunes off a computer but I'm waiting to see if there are any better suggestions. (There's an update waiting on my computer as well.)

Another suggestion is to restore to the latest back-up however if you are using icloud back-up you may be screwed.

Tim Cook should just go ahead and rename Apple - Comcast. Because they keep getting crappier and crappier without providing any value.

I've lost my entire music collection on my iPad2 - playlists, songs, everything - since 'upgrading' (read 'downgrading') to IOS 8.4!

Running iTunes 12.2.2.25 on VAIO (Windows 7) and syncing using USB cable, as always. I haven't dared sync my iPhone 5S since this happened several days ago, meaning I cannot update my Outlook with appointment & contact changes made on iPhone. Hugely frustrating!

Have just piped out a Tweet to @APPLEOFFICIAL & @iTunes... I REALLY hope they get this sorted FAST - and not just for MY sake!

Hi there

I have the same problem but cannot sync from pc as all these files seem to be missing from my pc. After the IOS 8.4 update to the mymusic app. I cannot find or play any of the 1800 odd songs on my iphone. When the iphone is plugged in to Itunes on my pc the songs are all shown under 'On my device' and I can play them on the pc. The space is also used up on my iphone but it is now included under 'Other' instead of 'Audio' (I had a screen shot on but wouldn't let me post it) I have looked at many other comments on this but don't see a solution that works.

Any help gratefully appreciated so I can listen to the songs on my iphone again

I applied the update just before a road trip. I discovered Apple had deleted my playlists off my iPhone while on a three hour drive with no cell service. This was a problem because my seven month old was having a meltdown and the music playlist that normally calms him right down was vaporized by a ill-conceived, Comcast grade attempt to push a new product.

My youngest son cried himself to sleep instead of being soothed by music because Apple wanted to trap me into spending more money.

Guess whose next phone will be an Android?

quick update: after synching several times, only iTunes content has been restored on my device: all of the CDs music cannot be copied over anymore. All movies have been removed and cannot be synched. The have to be redownloaded from the Cloud. here is an image of iTunes with the greyed out content:

I have also started another thread about this:Re: How do I transfer my CD music to my iPhone and/or my iPad?

Make sure you switched on the iCloud-music Library.

Setting -> music -> iCloud music Library ✅

I was just able to fix it. I had to go to Settings-Music- and turn off Show Apple Music, then I had to go to Settings-iCloud- and turn off iCloud Drive. Then I synced with my Computer and everything came back. I have an iPad 2.

Thanks so much! Your post helped amazingly. By the way, your method works for 9.1 on iPhone 6-plus as well, and I didn't have to sinc with my computer, either. Just followed your instructions in the first sentence. I hope this will help others! 🙂

I am so upset with this. After downloading the new iOS on to my phone, the same thing happened. I was at the gym this morning to just play some music and a message kept saying to log on to Apple Music. When looking at my playlists all the music I had spent hours loading and putting in to playlists were blank. Then it would ask me to sync with a WiFi to listen. If not I would have been using up data from Verizon. This is ridiculous! All the music that I had uploaded from CD's over the years were erased off my phone. I think it's terrible that Apple for one, seems to be trying to force people to use their Apple Music and second, that they are making money for companies like Verizon if you run over your data. I have been using Apple products for years. From phones to my expensive computers and I feel let down by this company. I am a musician. I produce, record, practice, and review music on my phone. If this new iOS was going to do this, why wouldn't they warn us this was going to happen. I will definitely not install a new iOS until all the kinks are worked out. Just a terrible way to treat customers!!!!!
