Previously loaded music is missing after IOS 8.4 upgrade

After updating to IOS 8.4 my music previously loaded on my phone from iTunes is gone as are my playlists.

It looks as though the space is still allocated on my phone, so the music must still be there.

The only music that shows are the songs I purchased.

How do I access my music or how can I clear the allocated space?

iPhone 5s, iOS 8.4

I have the exact issue and it might be the deal breaker. I have most of my music loaded from vinyl and organized by key playlists. All gone. Most of my music you can't get on itunes with the crisp vinyl sound. All gone.

It's been recommended to try an load from itunes off a computer but I'm waiting to see if there are any better suggestions. (There's an update waiting on my computer as well.)

Another suggestion is to restore to the latest back-up however if you are using icloud back-up you may be screwed.

Tim Cook should just go ahead and rename Apple - Comcast. Because they keep getting crappier and crappier without providing any value.

I am having issues with missing playlists on family iPhones after upgrading the devices to iOS 8.4.

As far as I can tell, the music in the iTunes libraries has synced to the iPhones, but the playlists are not syncing between the computer (iTunes) libraries and the iPhones.

I have one device (an iPod Touch) that I have not upgraded from 8.3 to 8.4 and it still has the iTunes library playlists.

I have seen references in other postings to a workaround that involves selecting an "Enable iCloud Music" setting under Settings>Music, but on both iPhones, that button isn't displayed.

I am not an iTunes Match or Apple Music subscriber, so I don't think settings related to those services should be solutions to my issue.

After I upgraded to IOS 8.4 I still had my playlists but many of my playlists were empty. It took a while for me to figure it out with the new UI but what got them back is:

  1. Select My Music from bottom menu
  2. Select Playlists on top of screen
  3. Tap on "All Playlists", it doesn't look like it is something to tap but you then get a small window at bottom with the option "Show Music Available Offline(only show music stored on this iPhone)" . This option was turned on and much of my music is store on Cloud. I disabled this option and all of my songs showed up again.

I was pretty bummed for a while but I'm glad it was this easy. I missed any documentation about this change and the change wasn't so intuitive to find.

I hope this helps some of you.

Yes, although I have already posted a comment on this thread, there are obviously two issues here:

1. If you normally sync iTunes with your device, then there is an answer, it is just knowing it !!

2. For those who don't sync but 'stream' then there is still an on-going problem with Home Sharing being removed in 8.4. I cannot sync my 70 gig iTunes library with my 16 gig ipads of course, so I stream.

As mentioned before I did not update to 8.4 (or 8.3, I stayed with 8.2) so my 'Music' tab still has home sharing possible - and it is going to stay that way !!!

Installed IOS 8.4 on two iPhones and two iPads. Now none of them can download music from my library (3,700 albums, 14,400 songs) which is almost all ripped from cd's. The albums/songs on the devices no longer show a cloud symbol to allow downloading. If I connect one to my Macbook, where the music library sits, there doesn't even seem to be a way to download music from there. Am I missing something or have Apple removed the ability to download music unless purchased from the iTunes store? I don't want Apple Music, but if I can pay once for all devices and download individually to each device I may consider this.

About 170 of my over 300 songs are there, but I can't figure out the new version. One song plays over and over and over. Saw the "shuffle" option just once and now can't find it again. It's a very confusing program now. I do download from the computer, so I can do it all over again, but what a pain. Once they're on there, I can't figure out now to get them to play one after the other in order. I watched the tutorial that popped up on my computer the first time I plugged my phone into it after the upgrade, but some of the icons it said to use never show up on my phone.

The latest iTunes and IOS updates have been a complete disaster for me, too.

My music library is a complete mess on my iMac, iPad and iPhone.

I was hoping Apple would have, at least, put out a statement acknowledging this issue and are working on a fix.

As a fan of Apple products for 25 years and a recent shareholder, this is very disappointing. I feel let down.

I Have had exactly the same issue it is very frustrating when you can do the upgrade remotely from your laptop and it messes up your access to your music while you are travelling and then need to sync with your laptop to fix a problem that wasn't there in the first place. I am now travelling with work for a week with none of my playlists for either relaxing or exercisI got available to me until I return home and sync my phone again. It is an unacceptable situation and extremely frustratin. I have through my career and home lif championed the value of apple as an integrated system that 'works'. I cannot do this any longer - I am very disappointed and frustrated with the lack of customer focus with this arbitrary upgrade.

To Apple - at the very least, you could have warned us to be near our computer before doing this upgrade in case we have to reload our songs and playlists on the iPhone.

I store background tracks for my vocalist on my iPhone to play through the sound system during our performances. I did the upgrade to the iPhone 6 on Sunday, after a performance, in case there were problems. None. Last night at rehearsal, no problems. Today at performance, all the background tracks are gone. In front of an audience. Gone. Thank goodness the piano still worked or we would have had to cancel. However, since we practice with background tracks, it wasn't a very good performance.

The lack of responsibility to the impact of this by Apple is really concerning. Maybe they think music is just something nice to have. True, but what about employment? If this performance was an audition ... well, we wouldn't have a chance. If we don't get another booking from this client, it's a big deal. I've been reading other posts - losing your entire library that you recorded from vinyl! That's a lot of time to do over. Beyond frustrating. Next phone will be an Android.

OK, so I went to Settings/Music on the iPhone and turned off Apple Music, which didn't help, and then under Sort Albums I changed it from By Artist to By Title, which did solve the problem of my missing albums. Now at least all my albums are back when I sort by Album (in Music player).
