cannot connect to gmail after 10.10.4 update
After updating to 10.10.4 I can no longer connect to gmail. It worked right before the update, so it's clearly the update that broke it. What can I do?

Same thing happening to me.
I finally got Gmail to work by going to Mail:Preferences:Accounts:Google Mail:Advanced and checking the "Automatically detect and maintain account settings"
Hope this helps someone.
Thank you, Geoff - this worked for me.
Thanks! Checking the box brought my accounts back to life! I was flummoxed... I guess it is another Google vs. Apple war (my post will now probably be deleted...)

Unfortunately, this did not help me. It was already checked, and unchecking it and checking it again does not help either.
The suggestion did not help me either. I cannot take Gmail online.
Apple actually called me, and asked me to run some diagnostics on Mail, and I sent them the log. So, it seems they are aware of the problem. Hopefully, we will get a solution soon. Not being able to use email kind of beats part of the purpose of having a computer!
I found another post that fixed things for me. See this: Post 10.10.4 Google IMAP accounts not working The key is highlighting the Google acct at left, then going to the Advanced panel on right.
Thanks, going to Mail:Preferences:Accounts:Google Mail:Advanced and checking the "Automatically detect and maintain account settings as suggested works first shot for me.
Sigh. This seems to help a lot of people. Unfortunately, it doesn't work for me.
This helped me too, thanks so much!
I guess this was a "feature" of the update. 😉
Thanks ! Working for me 🙂
Depressing, this works for so many, but not for me.
The strange thing, mail logs into some google accounts, but the number is variable. I have another google account that I use to subscribe to a shared calendar, but not mail. Mail sometimes successfully logs into that account, although it's not even for mail. Yesterday it logged into imap and smtp for that account, today only the smtp.
Now, for one of my google accounts, checking "Automatically detect and maintain account settings" makes a difference. Without it, mail can log into the smtp server, but not the imap server. With it checked, it can log into both smtp and imap servers. Alas, that is an account I only use to subscribe to a shared calendar (so why mail is logging into it is a mystery, but that's for another thread). For my actual mail account, checking or unchecking makes no difference.
I spent almost 2 hours looking for a solution. You saved my day, THX 🙂
