iOS 8.4 GPS Issue

I updated to iOS 8.4 and now my GPS isn't getting data quickly, when using Maps or Waze for directions it take so long to figure out where it's at it's pretty much useless. Anyone else having this issue?

Unfortunately the location reset didn't worked for me. I have an iPad 2 with iOS 8.4.

It seemed to work when doing short journeys inside the city. Nevertheless yesterday I made a 60 km trip and it broke down. The message "locating" appeared and the navigation freezed.

Waiting for a proper update from Apple as it seems a common problem of iOS 8.4.

True,

power off is the right thing. Fixed for me. But the error appends again if you do factory restore. So it is a Hardware issue.

8.4 broken my both cams. That issue and location issue have few more people
Front cam works with that lines and same with back cams. But back cams freze and not work at all for some time.
Will try to replace my iphone (5th time) in that month. If apple wont replace it for free i have 40KG of 2 cent coins ready to pay the 275€ bill.

Waze , Google Map and Maps was not able to detect GPS Signal when it running.

I fixed this GPS issue by all the step below:

1. Go to "Settings"

2. Choose "General"

3. Select "Reset"

4. Choose "Reset Location & Privacy"

5. It will prompt for Enter your passcode

6. A Message will prompt "This will reset your location and privacy settings to factory defaults." > tap "Reset Setting"
7. "WhatApps" will 1st prompt for “Would Like to Access Your Contacts" > Choose ”OK“。

9. Your location and privacy has been reset. Now click ”< General"

10. Back to Settings

11. Select " Privacy"

12. Tap on "Location Services"

13. From "on" tap to "off"

14. Then turn "on" Location Services again.

15. Press Home button and now try to open “Waze" app. and it will prompt "Allow "Waze" to access your location even when you are not using the app?". you must choose "Allow".

16. Your GPS Service should run without any issue.

Happy try.

I have this issue now on 8.1.2 so I don't think it was isolated to 8.4. But your suggestions match what I saw over here http://www.redmondpie.com/how-to-fix-ios-8.4-gps-issue-for-apps-like-maps-and-mo re/

I'll try that first and see if it works.

I live in a new city. Fortunately I've been here a year so I know when Google Maps is on drugs telling me to take a right when clearly I'm supposed to go straight and that was the original set of instructions Google Maps gave me.

Whenever I want to use Maps, google maps waze or any other maps or GPS navigation, It dos not recognize. Few times it shows a wrong location which is more than 5-6 km away from the real place.

It is very hard to use an app to navigate to take public transportation or walking paths from the location i am at.

How can I solve this? Apple please fix the problem.

Thanks

I had the same issue and Fixed mine iphone 6 ios 8.4 by next steps:

- turn off wifi, bluetooth

- take out the sim card (the device was turned on)

- then I checked the navigation without card in google maps app (the map was loaded before) and it was showing me the correct possition

- then I just inserted back the sim card and it fixed The problem

hope its gonna work for you!

Two answers. If the apple store is convenient I would take it in but if not I would wait for IOS 9

I run IOS 9 beta right now and it never had the issue there so an alternate is get the IOS 9 beta and see if that address it. The IOS 9 beta is pretty solid now, not perfect, but good enough that I have no reason to go back to 8.4 plus it has some cool features I really like (the early version were pretty buggy)

Hmm, i can wait few more days for the IOS9 final release...not a big deal 🙂

Don't know why, but i don't believe in a hardware issue...(coz a lot of people on the net are affected by this issue...since 8.4)

Eventually, do you think that a tempered glass screen protector could affect GPS signal ?? (i didn't try removing it yet...)

Sep 3, 2015 8:12 AM in response to Llameth

No definitely not the screen protector. I have a Gorilla Glass on my iPhone 6. Did you try Google Maps or Waze as they worked on my phone when I had the issue. I personally hate them wrt the UI and Google uses 5X the data of Apple Maps as it bit maps so as soon as it fixed on mine I went back to Apple Maps. As reminder here are the steps I took that fixed it in IOS8.4. You have to do them in this exact sequence. I tried just turning off the phone or just disabling and reenabling location and that did NOT work

  • Quit Apple Maps
  • Disable Location Services for all apps from settings/privacy/location service
  • exit settings
  • Hard reset phone by holding down the home and power button
  • Enable location services
  • Try Apple maps

By the way I had to do this twice on my wife's phone but rather than a hard reset I just did the entire sequence again but rather than hard reset I just did a phone power down
