Songs listed in Apple Music, but unplayable

I've noticed some songs/albums are listed in Apple Music search results, but when you go to try to play them they are greyed out, and when you add them to a playlist they are also greyed out with a status of "Waiting".

Example: the artist Deadbeat, only a few of his EPs and singles are actually able to be played. The rest are listed but greyed out when you go into the details. The funny thing is, all of this is on Spotify.

Could be a rights issue that could get sorted out but it's a bit disappointing to see music that is available on Spotify for free but not available with an Apple Music subscription.

Just talked with Apple support on the phone and they confirmed that a lot of songs are still not licensed for streaming on Apple Music but they are available to buy in the iTunes Store.

I think it is irritating because the same songs are available for streaming on other services like Spotify.

This "you will have access to our complete catalog of music" is just BS advertising.

I was able to listen to the entire Riverside discography until a couple of days ago, when albums gradually started being unavailable: no longer displayed on the artist page in Apple Music and greyed out in my Library if I added them. As of this moment, there are only a handful of albums, most of them singles, that I can stream. Same thing happened for other bands I added to my library.

I too suspect this is a licensing issue, but it's pretty frustrating that I paid the subscription on the basis that I can stream some specific bands and then finding out I cannot a couple of days later.

PS: Logging out and back in to iTunes did nothing except I had to re-enable iCloud Music Library, in order to get back the playlists and albums added to my library.

I don't know if someone else has posted this yet, but I was experiencing the same issue, and then when I figured out what the problem was, proceeded to connect my palm to my face very forcefully. At some undetermined point, a large section of my music had been "unchecked", that is to say that all of the music has a checkbox next to it, and apparently checking v. unchecking affects the playability of the music. So all I did was select all of my music by song, right click and click "check selection" and all of my music was suddenly playable. I hope this helps somebody.

I have recently run into the same problem and man, it's frustrating to say the least. As suggested, I have logged out and in of iTunes on all my devices, but still many albums I uploaded from a CD to to iTunes, still can't be played on my iPad or iPhone.

If this isn't fixed soon, I will cancel Appe Music. Apple needs to step up and fix this mess. Customers should NOT have to rebuild their iTunes library, sign in and out, or spend hours fighting with iTunes and Apple Music. I am very disappointed and although I enjoyed the perks of Apple Music, the hassle isn't worth it. I recall the same thing happened to me when ITunes Match was first release In 2011. You'd think they's have figure this out by now.

APPLE, YOU NEED TO FIX THIS ASAP or you will LOOSE LOYAL CUSTOMERS, like me.

OK, I think I figured it out how to fix those greyed out songs/albums or at least it's a short term solution until Apple really fixes this probLem.

I opened iTunes on my computer, with my iPad connected, and then went into the Summary for my iPad. Next, I changed the Backup setting backing up to THIS COMPUTERS instead of backing up to iCloud. All my songs are back on my iPad and greyed out. I am still sycing everything, but crossing my fingers this will work for the time being. I have a feeling I'll be switching the back and forth between the two backup settings.

This problem has frustrated me for months, but I've found a way to fix it. The songs may be greyed out for a number of reasons. One reason I have found has to do with how Apple Music assigns one of your tracks to a track in the Apple Music catalogue. Sometimes for whatever reason the track it gets assigned to may become unavailable and then your track becomes unplayable, even though you own the music file. I have found a fairly simple solution.

Using a device other than the one you store your music files on, delete the song from your iCloud Music Library. The song will still be in your iTunes library on the computer where you keep your music files. You will see a cloud icon with an x on that track. Right click on this track and select "Add to iCloud Music Library." It should then re-appear on your other devices and the problem will most likely be fixed.

Since you have removed the track from your iCloud Music Library, you'll need to add it back to any of the playlists you have saved to iCloud.

You will find this also works for tracks you have that play the wrong version of a song in Apple Music.
