Songs listed in Apple Music, but unplayable

I've noticed some songs/albums are listed in Apple Music search results, but when you go to try to play them they are greyed out, and when you add them to a playlist they are also greyed out with a status of "Waiting".

Example: the artist Deadbeat, only a few of his EPs and singles are actually able to be played. The rest are listed but greyed out when you go into the details. The funny thing is, all of this is on Spotify.

Could be a rights issue that could get sorted out but it's a bit disappointing to see music that is available on Spotify for free but not available with an Apple Music subscription.

Just talked with Apple support on the phone and they confirmed that a lot of songs are still not licensed for streaming on Apple Music but they are available to buy in the iTunes Store.

I think it is irritating because the same songs are available for streaming on other services like Spotify.

This "you will have access to our complete catalog of music" is just BS advertising.

Theophane, I have had the same match problem arising from the assimilation, or lack thereof, of music on my hard drive and my iCloud library. It's very disappointing because this was the reason I chose Apple Music over Spotify - I thought I could have all my music seamlessly in one place.

Have you now rendered your own music on your hard-drive obsolete and solely using Apple Music?

Here are the steps I did to resolve this, i'm not sure if they are all necessary:

Edit: I did the same thing on my other Mac without removing any files and it worked, so all you have to do is:

Log out of iTunes (Account > Sign Out)

Quit iTunes

Open iTunes. Re-login to iTunes by going to the For You tab and logging in through Apple Music.

Log out of iTunes (Account > Sign Out)

Quit iTunes

Go to Your iTunes folder (By default ~/Music/iTunes) and move the iTunes Library.itl file to another location to back it up.

Open iTunes. Re-login to iTunes.

If you are not using iTunes Match these steps may not be ideal as your playlists may not be as they were, though.

Got it.

This seems to be an iTunes Match problem and happens randomly with tracks you previously had a hard copy of on your hard drive. Wiped all of my music (both local and iCloud) and in the process of adding albums to my iCloud library through the Apple Music search. Found out that many of my albums were ****** up to say the least. Wrong cover arts, wrong matching tracks (studio version matched on live records for example).

This whole Apple Music thing has been a mess so far for me. The Music app on my iPad Air keeps on crashing randomly when using it.

Anyways, I consider that unplayable song problem to be solved for me, but the tradeoff is I need to rebuilt my library, album by album, which is a PITA.

Is that 3 months free trial intended to allow Apple incrementing 10 bug fixing releases to launch a stable version in October ?

I think I have worked out what is happening. This happened to me too. Apple Music suggested I may be interested in a band called Tortoise so I selected a playlist it suggested called “an introduction to Tortoise”. It had about ten songs on it but only one was not greyed out. I could play that one but none of the others. This to me seemed like a stupid playlist for Apple Music to be offering, that is, one it can’t play. I checked for what Tortoise items were available to Apple Music to stream; only two albums out of about a ten album catalog, and the track that would play was from one of those two albums. I decided to check the iTunes store for Tortoise albums; the full catalog (I think) was available as were all the tracks on the largely unplayable Apple Music playlist. Why is Apple Music displaying a playlist that it can only partially deliver? Why isn’t the full iTunes catalog available to Apple Music to share via playlists? It seems like a mess that needs a bit of fixing.

Where did you find what songs were available for streaming on Apple Music? I have found the same as you where only one song of an album is not greyed out, the rest are unplayable on Apple music but all the songs are available to buy on iTunes Store.
