Hello,
I've got the same problem. I tried to do what it explained on the following websites :
http://imessengerblog.com/2015/07/how-to-create-genius-playlist-in-ios-8-4/
http://www.imore.com/how-use-playlists-apples-new-music-app#genius
But it changed nothing. The Genius playlists are not here anymore...
😢
i've created Smart Playlists.
So set the Genre to include Folk, not include Christmas int he album title, and I got about 999 tracks.
If an album is missing, I just added "Folk" into it's Get Info Genre area.
So that has helped me.
But I shoudl have never had to do it!
IIt's still there http://m.imore.com/how-use-playlists-apples-new-music-app
Thats playlist that you make. Not the blasted Genius Mix which iTunes has always geniusly created for us!
No it's not. Read the article further down. Genius playlists still exist on the latest iOS in the music app. I was confused too but they're still there, just in a different place. I can confirm that I've been using them all evening.
I'm not a fan of how they've hidden this though. The app seems intent on selling you a service now rather than playing you music you own.
Thanks for posting Rene Richie's iMore article. Alas the proposed solution does not replicate my old genius mixes and it frankly doesn't really work as intended. For example when I attempt to create a genius playlist based on a song from Pennywise, Rancid, the Bouncing Souls, etc...I get the following error message: "This song does not have enough related songs to create a Genius Playlist." I'm calling b*llish*t on the error message because I can confidently promise you that there is no shortage of punk rock music on my iPhone.
i could say the same about the volume of trance music on my iPhone as I also get this error message occasionally - however this is nothing new and I've had this since genius playlists first came out.
Tthe he fact is that they're still there, which was the theme of the original post.
People keeping saying "yes it's here, it's hidden in...". It's not.
You are seeing Genius Playlister which was there before and is a very different thing.
GP is you telling it what sort of music you like and it creates t based on what you select.
GM is where it use to create it via iTunes and you'd get a huge mass of music based on it's own "investigations".
GM has gone.
GP remains, but is not as good as GP.
Smart Playlister for me is the only other options.... since Apple decided to take away what it seems, so many people have been using.
A tad odd if you ask me.
I'm disappointed Genius Mixes have gone too. Fortunately I've been busy creating my own playlists of late so I don't miss them too much, but I did find they were quite fun to try every now and again. Also you know they are still available in iTunes (for now!), so what I'd suggest you do is listen to some of your favourite Genius Mixes on there, and re-create them manually, so you won't lose them altogether when the next version of iTunes inevitably gets rid of them!
It is quite frustrating that every time Apple updates something they don't fully think out how that's going to affect its customers. Like changing Artist page artwork to match with iTunes, and not allowing you to change or switch off when it matches artists wrong.
What the h*ll were they thinking shunting the artwork to the top of the screen, so that the bit at the top with the clock and battery obscure the artwork? That looks dreadful when you've got a song with the artist and title at the top of the cover.
And why doesn't it tell you how many tracks are in the album or playlist you're listening to any more?
Genius still works in IOS 8.4
I post some images about how to use it
http://theultimateblogr.blogspot.com/2015/07/como-crear-una-lista-genius-en-ios- 84.html
This does not work on my iPad Air or my iPhone 6 Plus.
Did Apple just throw away one of the main reasons for having an iphone?
I too am so disappointed the 'canned ' genius mixes have been taken away . I listened to them all the time, and I don't want to subscribe to apple music.
The continuous genius mixes were the main reason I have an iphone and Macbook. They took away one of the best features. I will try and restore the old itunes to get them back.
Pretending this was an upgrade was really bad .
Just been another update but music remains the same I can still see my original genius mixes when i open iTunes and play them on mac but when even ticked to sync they never appear in iPhone i would have never updated if i new this really don't like it all!
I used this playlist option all the time. I do not understand why you would remove it !
Apple, please bring it back !!!
Not only have the Genius Mixes gone, but now when I create Genius Playlists it randomly deletes those when I next sync with my MBA...
iTunes 12.2.1.16 and IOS 8.4
Not a happy bunny!
I did find this. If you highlight a song then 2 finger tap, it will allow you to create a new Genius playlist."Start Genius" or " Create Genius Playlist"
Just did it, works great.
