Hello,

I've got the same problem. I tried to do what it explained on the following websites :

http://imessengerblog.com/2015/07/how-to-create-genius-playlist-in-ios-8-4/

http://www.imore.com/how-use-playlists-apples-new-music-app#genius

But it changed nothing. The Genius playlists are not here anymore...

Add me to the large number of users that miss Genius Mixes on our devices. Still use it in iTunes to stream in the home via Apple TV. Truly like the way it puts together a new collection/playlist as I add to my library and/or register more play counts. Since it still exists in iTunes, could Apple developers please put back whatever is needed to sync and play!! Upgraded to IOS 9 hoping .... but Genius Mixes are still MIA.

Fixed it! Turns out this is hardest for people who've been creating Genius playlists. Two issues to solve:

1. REALLY activate Genius on your iPhone. Turns out Apple wants to be sure you accept data sharing with the Mother Ship. They can only do this when you first enable/Turn On Genius.

  • Go to Settings / Music. If Genius is turned on, turn it off.
  • Back out of Music settings.
  • Double-tap the Home button, end Settings application.
  • Re-enter Settings / Music. Verify Genius is turned off. If Genius is back on, follow above 3 steps, then Reset iPhone (Hold down Power & Home buttons so phone shuts down, do NOT release until you see the Apple symbol during startup.).
  • Once in Music settings, turn Genius On. This triggers the data sharing prompt so you can agree.

2. Get "Create Genius Playlist" added back to Music app popup menu. Looks like Music app can't update the menu for a song that's currently playing.

  • Go to Music app.
  • (May not be necessary.) Start playing a song.
  • While in a view that shows a list of songs...
  • Choose a song that is NOT playing, tap the three dots ...
  • You should now see "Create Genius Playlist" in the pop-up menu.
  • Settle down from your victory dance.
  • Tap the three dots ... for the song that is currently playing. You should now see "Create Genius Playlist" in its pop-up menu, too.

Hope this helps. I depend on Genius for unexpected song combinations.

TThanks Nick. But this creates a new playlist. It does not bring back our saved Mixes.

I Too am disappointed with Apple. in the words of the sparrows "SHAME"! It is a crappy move to make money for the shareholders at the expense of the loyal apple fans.

I Am also disappointed with the fact that not all users have unlimited data plans to enjoy music we already own.

All good except the option to turn it on dosent appear.

Second genius was more than just making 25 long play lists from your music.

Apple needs to bring it back. I travel and again today was with out my music as I wont pay to get access to music I have already paid for.

WE as a collective need to keep hounding Apple to bring it back.

Im Just about ready to go in and ask for a refund as it they are no longer providing what we paid for.

If Apple listened to its users we would have this problem.

Fix the issu or get used to the complaints.

I agree with the sentiments here. I live in Idaho, and often travel where I do not have service. Since the iPods and iTunes were rolled out well over 10 years ago, I have used the devices such as Mr. Jobs described during the initial roll out, well before streaming services. I like to own my music. I like to add music from small independent artists whose music I buy at shows. And etc. The changes in the last couple years to iTunes are atrocious, and an affront to Steve Job's vision as described in his roll out speeches. Apple needs to fix this and allow for the older style of use. I am certain there will be plenty of people who live in urban areas that choose to stream. Look how many people simply rely on Pandora! But the devices should still support the rest of us as well. Apple, please take this to heart and fix the program.

They should just remove the Genius button if the functionality has been removed. I have a workaround that takes a few minutes to setup but works like a champ after you do. Just wish it would work as advertised in the first place

1. Go to App Store on your phone

2. Download Google Play Music

3. Download Android Music Manager to your PC with iTunes (it will automatically sync purchases going forward, both iTunes --> Google Play and from Google to iTunes)

4. Go back to the phone and download all the music (if you don't want to pay for data)

5. Click on start instant mix, don't get an error message and enjoy your automatic playlist 🙂
