Songs won't add to playlists

I keep adding music to my playlists and more than 80% of the time it won't show up. I'll get the message that it's been added, but when I navigate to the playlist, it's not there.

Also, if I go to  Music on another device (iTunes on Mac, iOS on iPad) the syncing doesn't appear to be working correctly either.

Anyone else having these issues?

I think I was having the same issue and found the solution. When I heard a song streaming on Apple Music that I wanted to add to a Playlist it would show an animated check on the screen saying that it was successful, but when I checked the playlist it wasn't there. The solution is that I have to first had to select "Add to My Music" THEN "Add to Playlist". Now it works. It's dumb, but it works. The way it should work is by adding a song to a playlist it should automatically add it to your music in the process since that is clearly your intent. I'm sure they'll fix it in updates. Still, presently annoying.

This by the way is all on my iPhone. Haven't tried anything directly from iTunes.

Too bad. I'm sometimes having to do the same but I like so many other things about  Music that I'll put up with it until they update app. I noticed today that they have put out 8.4.1 beta so hope this has bug fixes. I've been a longtime Rhapsody subscriber (liked it) and do a free Spotify but I've unsubbed from Rhapsody and haven't looked at Spotify app since I got  Music, The "for you' has been terrific for me and links from playlists, artists, etc has ended up introducing me to new artists or some I've forgotten. I expect it to only get better and iron out bugs and add features that I'm sure have been asked for,

I use the Ipad app primarily but also Iphone, I've played several long playlists of mine in the car from downloads and have not ever had any issues with streaming.

**OOPS, saw this posted above already, but it absolutely worked for me. Make sure under Settings in music, both Show Apple Music and iCloud Music Library are on.**

So, I was having the same problem on my iPhone 6. I was not able to add any music from Apple Music to my Playlists, or My Library.

I did some research and came up with the following:

1) For good measure I turned my phone on and off.

2) I went into Library under My Music and clicked on the drop down arrow, mine was set to Artists. I then disabled the Show Music Available Offline (No Green) at the very bottom.

After that everything I add to My Music or a Playlist shows up immediately and stays there.

Let me know if this works for you...Good Luck!

My problem with my 5s was it not syncing immediately to the Ipad--where I tend to set up playlists, explore. I play from the phone and also download some playlists to it for driving. I reset the phone (Home and off button together to  logo) and connected to power like I do for back up and lo and behold, everything synced, It had been sitting in same area unreset, unhooked to power for many many hours and hadnt synced so not sure which caused it to work correctly, reset or power.

I still am very happy with  Music but it does take a bit to find all the ways to find and save your music, I had liked Rhapsody for 4 years plus and esp. as they continued to update the app but I have added so much music in a variety of genres in  Music that I never discovered there.

I think I have the solution.

If you are listening to a NEW song (if it's not on your device or added to 'my music') , and try to add it to a playlist it doesn't work. The first thing you should do is "Add to my Music", and THEN "add to playlist". If the song isn't located in my music or if its not in your existing library, it won't add to a playlist.

This worked for me! Hope it works for you!

EXpecting most here are using Iphones but on my Ipad if I add a song to a playlist it automatically adds it to My Music, I don't have to add it to My Music first and then playlist. I just tried it to be sure I wasn't misremembering but I added a hot track from singers/songwriters in New to a playlist that I also have downloaded. It added it to the playlist and automatically downloaded--(which appeared at top quickly in Playlist mode), I don't usually add music from the Iphone, usually Ipad, but play often on Iphone. I would expect that last track would not have been downloaded on the Iphone since I added it from the Ipad, but nope, I was wrong, it added it "available for offline" to Iphone also, so it syncs that to both devices--which I didn't realize.

So to summarize, on both Ipad Air (1) and Iphone 5s, both running 8.4.1, when I add a new track to a playlist it does that and automatically adds to My Music. If it is a playlist I have already designated for 'make available offline' it does that also automatically.

THe one thing I would like them to add is to make that little gray corner of track designating it has been downloaded when you do it track by track--to also show when it adds it automatically or when you make a whole playlist 'available for download'. Otherwise to be sure you need to put device in airplane mode or in My Music, click at top for All Playlist menu and choose 'Music available offline' which says 'only show music stored on this Iphone'.
