Downloaded music missing after 8.4 upgrade

After upgrading to iOS 8.4. opening the music app, and declining the Apple Music free trial, I noticed all of my previously downloaded iTunes Match music (about 60GB) was missing from my iPhone 6 plus. I could still see all my songs in the cloud, but they were not showing as downloaded, or available offline. I checked General --> Usage --> Manage Storage, and sure enough, the music library was only a few KB in size. However, strangely enough, my used and available storage numbers indicate that the previously downloaded music is still there, taking up space. The new music app just doesn't see it.

I tried toggling Music --> iCloud Music Library on and off a few times. I tried a regular reboot and a hard reboot. I tried deleting the music library through manage storage. None of these things helped. Last night, I tried re-downloading around 10GB of playlists for offline use. Now, the music library shows up as 10GB, but the previous 60GB of music is still on there taking up space, reducing the available storage shown remaining, but not usable by the new music app. The same exact thing happened on my iPad when I upgraded it as well, so I know it isn't a fluke; it's reproducible. Wiping the device and restoring it from backup is probably a valid solution, but I only like doing that as a last resort.

Just curious who else is having this bug, and maybe don't realize a chunk of their storage is now unusable.

I have the same issue. I did sign up for Apple Music and so I thought this was an Apple Music issue, so I originally posted the description of my issue here:

iTunes Match downloaded music no longer visible with iOS 8.4 and Apple Music

I have discovered today that it seems to have affected videos in the same way.

On my iPhone 6 I have:

Around 23GB of music downloaded form iTunes Match

Around 38GB of movies lovely synced from my Mac over USB

None of that is visible anymore on the iPhone, and when connecting to y Mac I can see over 60GB of 'Other' shown as used storage.

Hmmm... I'm hesitant to do this - I only do iCloud backups, not iTunes backups. I've never synced this phone to iTunes on my mac. If my memory serves me, the last time I tried to do an iTunes backup (years ago), it rearranged all my apps, replaced all the music / media on the device, etc. Basically, the time it would take to do get everything back to normal would be more than the time to just do a wipe and restore from an iCloud backup. Kind of hoping Apple releases an 8.4.1 update to reclaim the wasted space... but I won't hold my breath.

Thanks for the update though, nice to know I'm not the only one seeing this bug.

I had similar concerns, but in my experience it was pretty painless.

I don't really 'sync' with the Mac. I usually do a full local backup before major iOS updates, and I sync my own TV and Movie files locally. It's setup to use iTunes Match so syncs no local music.

My experience was that it didn't seem to do anything untoward with arrangement of apps, music or anything. Obviously I may have been lucky!

I noticed today iTunes 12.2.1 release notes state: "Provides a way to correct a library problem affecting former iTunes Match subscribers." Sounds a lot like my issue above. Anyone know what this 'way' is or how to use it? Because I don't sync with iTunes and use iCloud backups instead, when I connect my phone to iTunes, I only get two options... "Set up as new phone" or "restore from backup". Neither sounds like something I want to do...

Yeah same account on both. It's the normal iTunes splash screen when it's never seen a phone before. I've read some people saying to choose 'set up as new iPhone', as it's only new to iTunes and won't actually wipe the phone. Others have said to do that and cancel the sync as soon as it starts to get past the splash screen. Waiting to read more before jumping in.
