'Shuffle All Songs' feature gone on iOS 8.4

So I just updated my iPhone 6 to iOS 8.4. The 'shuffle all songs' feature is gone! So if you're like me, I work hard at organizing my music each time I add a new CD or purchase on iTunes. I go to 'options' on each song and check or leave blank 'skip when shuffling' option based on what songs I want to hear when I shuffle all of my music. I have over 3500 songs on my iPhone, but shuffle a little over 1000.

So how do I shuffle all of my music? Thanks to the trusty internet, I found two ways:

1. Select a song, play it, and make sure the shuffle icon at the bottom of the screen is selected. The problem here is I really don't want to have to sort through 3500 songs to find a starting point. I really like the randomness of letting my phone select the first played song.

2. Tell Siri to 'shuffle my songs.' Guess I'll have to go with this method since the option to shuffle my music manually is gone. 😢

Here's to hoping that Apple will take notice that being able to manually start a shuffle session is important to users.

Ok, now that I've used it for a bit I have a question:

Each song I have in iTunes I have gone to 'get info' and selected 'options'. I've checked the box 'skip when shuffling' on the songs that I don't want to hear when I shuffle my music (as described above). Those songs play regardless if I have the box checked or not. Why is this happening? Did Apple disable the 'skip when shuffling' option? VERY disappointed. Having this feature is the MAIN reason I like using iTunes via my iPhone 6. Without it, I'm reduced to going through my entire 3500+ song library and build a playlist if I want to keep using my iPhone. That is not a viable option.

Any help or direction is appreciated.

Typically at work, I would shuffle a low-key Genre ... like Classical, New Age, etc. In the previous version of iTunes, the top row of the genre had a shuffle feature, regardless of which Genre you pulled up. However, if you all remember, when THAT version first appeared, the Shuffle feature had ALSO not been included .... it was re-introduced in a subsequent update.

Now, Apple, in their infinite wisdom, has decided to remove it AGAIN. (or at least make it incredibly difficult to find or have us discover a "workaround".

So now, having to revert to Siri shuffling my music, time and time again she shuffles Adele's "21" album when I tell her to shuffle all alternative music. ***!?! LOVE Adele .... but come on!!

Apple, why can't you leave things alone? We no sooner get one thing figured out that you botch up and then you go and change it again.

@moclose, I'm with you. I'm doing what everyone is saying on here, but there is no shuffling option after clicking all songs. Do I have to click on a song and THEN shuffle everything? Not happy with Apple with this iTunes change. Who approved this? Did they talk to ANYONE that uses it everyday? I think explanations and instructions on changes like this should be sent with each rollout.

I am quite angry and deeply despited by this new app. it became ridicusly complicated to listen to my songs as I was in habit to do so : shuffling my songs. Simply browsing, chosing songs in just one click. What happened ?? who decided to remove such a useful Function ?? What is the delirious plan behind this ?? FOR THE VERY FIRST TIME I HAVE REMOVED ITUNES FROM MY IPHONE DOCK. And replaced it by an alternate app (vox). Please turn things back quick.

Sorry for my bad english

regards.

I found that the best way to shuffle all music is to create a Smart Playlist within iTunes on my Mac. When you create the smart playlist, it will default to 'Match the following rule:' with the conditions set as Artist > Contains > blank. If you change the criteria to iCloud Status > Is > Apple Music and ensure the the 'Limit to' option is unchecked and 'Live Updating' is checked, once saved the playlist will then sync with your devices. All of your current Apple Music tracks will appear in the playlist and any new ones that you add will also automatically be added. As it's a playlist, you can simply select the playlist on your iOS device to open it up and you should then see a shuffle option. By selecting it, you are effectively shuffling your entire Apple Music tracks.

However, the playlist won't contain any of your own local music, it's purely music you've added from the Apple Music service. I don't have any of my own music files in my library so I can't test any options but you can add multiple rules to the smart playlist and I'm sure that there will be something that you can set up to include your own music as well.

Hope this helps. It's not a perfect solution but I've found that it works well for me.

Dude FreakyTeeth thank you for this tip. But this exactly to avoid such kind of ffiddling that i chose Long Time ago to never buy any Windows products. it appears now some Apple pieces of applications become ridiculously complicated, so as to satisfy a growing number of customers. Apple is now a supercompany and their apps will probably become "heavier". Like text. Before i used to click on application and directly began to write. Now i click and then click again "new document". Dunno the of the engineering responsible for this f…ing "improvment" but i sure will not send him any greetings card. keep-it-simple is not anymore an Apple state of mind.

This is not a solution, really, but I use my 2008 iPod to handle my music and podcasts. It uses iOS 4, which was actually designed by an ID department. I can do everything everyone on this thread wants to do. Also, it will play downloaded songs and podcasts while driving, which is not really possible with an iPhone that has to be tethered to a cell network to play. Perhaps there is a workaround to make it work as the seven year old iPod does, but why should I have to suffer with ancient technology like iOS8 when I have something modern like iOS4? It does mean I carry two devices with me: the ever backwards heading, undesigned tangle of workarounds, needless apps and nearly invisible text that is today's iPhone and the modern well-designed iOS4 iPod. The bigger question is why Apple has abandoned industrial design? Why has it decided to create an interface that does not work? As an ID myself, this is quite a mystery. Until Apple figures it out, I'll continue to be a two-device person. It would be great if Apple would rehire its ID team, however, so i would not have to.

Here is the thing –
If you are going to take a feature away or if you are going to change the
method with which your customers accessed a feature I would think it would be prudent
to provide the information to the customer to help them understand the changes
and give solutions to assist. In Apple’s typical arrogant way they don’t bother
… Why because they are banking on their product name and that the loyal base is
16 year olds with nothing better to do. Well most 16 yrs that I know don’t have
the allowance that provides them with being able to purchase a device that cost
almost $800 and even in contract you are still talking over $150. So that
leaves the actual customer base of adults that have jobs and take care of kids
and have lives so they don’t have the luxury to just hang out creating “playlists”
maybe the kids that work at Apple have hours and hours of time to explore a new
/ changed feature but the rest of us…Not so much. Apple does not have to go hours and days
without the money that is paid to them for the device and purchases why should
I and other consumers have to muddle through hours and days figuring out
features that we had and that worked. But more to the point where is the mindset
that thinks it’s OK to do these types of changes. I work in an IT dept and now have to post this fix to
900 device users …Why?

Keywal Humm! The ability to do what you are suggesting has been there all along and like 10 of thousands of other people I chose to tap on
one button to shuffle all my songs. And like those same 10’s of thousands of people I too have over 3,000 songs.

So let me get this correctly you think that spending hours upon hours of time creating play list are the way to go when all I had to do was tap on shuffle. How does that work, easier for me?

FreakyTeeth so each and everyone that ever purchased an iPhone / iPad has a Mac also… I’ve no
idea where I could have left my Mac, I don’t remember purchasing one but I’mold I could have forgotten [PS most of us have over the 5gigs of free space in music] Not everyone lives in the Apple universe

I think your criticism is better directed towards Apple not users of this forum that are trying to help other users. Take your frustrations out with them, they're are the ones that took the feature away.

BTW - The reference to a Mac was simply because I was using a Mac at the time. Have you ever heard of Windows? (you must have done working in IT). Well, let me tell you something that you may not know. Apple also has a version of iTunes that works on Windows and can also create Smart Playlists. I know, it's amazing! Who would have thought that iTunes was only available on a Mac?
