ios 8.4 battery life and overheating issue

Hello Apple

I have recently upgraded to ios 8.4 after reading that it came with new features and better performance, however, moments after the upgrade was done, I noticed that the battery dies quicker than it used to be. also when I'm making a phone call, my iPhone starts getting so hot that it makes if painful to keep holding the phone especially on the edges, I get scared that the battery might explode on my face.

I adjusted the battery usage and background apps just like they used to be on ios 8.3 any solution please?

I have iPhone 5s but it is not used much it was stored in its box until recently.

Yup ... usage is being a power drain.

Battery Doctor App (I have it installed) shows history and current usage on power.

Flashlight app (has morse code transmitter and I want receiver put it in as well ) is level 5 on mine.

White Pages App, File Manager are level 5, Podcast, Open Table, Fandango,, Google Translate are level 3.

IBooks is level 2 along with Medscape App.

Location is Level 4 in the system .. Network, Mail, Wi-Fi, Push, Bluetooth are 3,2,1,1,1 in power usage.

I never use most of these Apps and they are sucking power.

Wi-Fi is turned off, as well is Bluetooth, and I never use Mail but it is one of those Apple Apps I can not delete and according to Apple I must have.

I went through Settings again .. and turned off everything that was on and green switched all that I could as I was not using them.

See if that helps any ...

However iBooks is sucking power, turned off and never used while also being unwanted .. along with many others in the same condition such as White Pages which I want but also have not any reason to use except in an emergency.

According to Battery Doctor in what it can look at .. that is what it says on my 5s.

Pity that I might only get 12 months of use out of it before it starts to heat up on me and lasts a few minutes between charges.

Managed to get my battery consumption back to normal. To do so I had to turn off WiFi and LTE. So basically the only way I can conserve battery is by turning off key features of the phone. Features that worked fine while using ios 8.2

Thanks Apple for rushing out an un-tested operating system so you can try and squeeze more money out of us with bloody Apple Radio.

I'll be thinking twice before getting another Apple product.

That's kind of like saying that you've fixed your problem with a flat tire by not driving the car. If you have to turn off all of the features of the phone to have reasonable battery life, there's a problem that needs solving. As the vast majority of iPhone 6 users do not have the problem, it's most likely something to do with your specific set up. It's not Apple rushing out an untested version of iOS.

Take a look at this article:

Thanks for sending across this article...I know you are trying to help.

Yes, fixing my battery life by turning off key features of the phone is frustrating. The fact is, I'm a very unsophisticated user who has used the phone the same way since I bought it. All was fine up to ios 8.2...and the problems only began only with 8.3 and 8.4. During this time my usage remained the same and I installed no new apps. This battery drain/connectivity problems are completely as a result of the new ios, and yeah, I'm going to have to go ahead and disagree with you there.....they most definitely didn't test this update thoroughly enough. But when you are Apple, who gives a **** about the end customer. Plenty of suckers like us out there.

If the problem were the update, more or most people would have it. Most of us done. Don't make the mistake of confusing correlation with causality. However, it appears you aren't actually interested in troubleshooting but only in blaming Apple. I'll leave you to it. It won't get your phone fixed but it may give you a sense of self-righteousness.

You could, of course, make an appointment at the Genius Bar at your local Apple Store and have them test your battery.

Best of luck.

What would help is being allowed to role back to a more stable version of the ios which was proven to work for me on my device. That is something Apple won't allow. You'd swear they owned the device rather than me. I can install whatever version of windows I want on my home computer.

They don't own the device but they do own the software. Therefore, they can make it available or not as they chose.

I tossed away Flashlight App and Fandango App ... and lots of other Apps that I downloaded from the iMac iTunes store (not iPhone iTunes; that is a different iTunes store).

Battery Doctor was telling me that they used a lot of battery power ... and it did not help one bit to take them out of the iPhone, it is still listed as 23 hours of standby time.

I also never use iCloud as the iPhone has to use cellular time to make iCloud work (I never use Wi-Fi or Bluetooth and have them turned off yet Battery Usage and Battery Doctor says they are power suckers) .. and iCloud is every ones business as it can be hacked ... which is very public knowledge.

So I keep all my backup Contacts and Apps on my iMac as it uses no power and no Verizon time from the iPhone to make that backup work.

I also seem to have my Fingerprint ID problem back now ... the iPhone just will not recognize my fingerprints I put in.

So I delete them #2 and #3 fingerprints and re-enter them every 3 days now; so far I never lose #1 fingerprint. ... I shut off and restart the iPhone hoping that will help make it more stable but it doesn't.

In fact it seems to make it worse, as shutting down the iPhone makes the problems of losing data a guaranteed event.

As long as the iPhone is powered on and stays that way .. the data stays intact and usable.

Since it is an intermittent problem .. I have to go with software as the issue.

If it was a permanent problem .. that I have to say it is hardware.

Going to the Apple Store and having the Genius put the iOS 8.4 into the iPhone ... no help at all.

I just think I am not corrupting the software on install .. and the Genius is not corrupting the software on install.

The software is crap ... GIGO ... garbage in garbage out ... good in good out.

Getting rid of PUSH notifications ... I think would be a big help.

To my mind PUSH notices absolutely sever no purpose to the consumer as for me reading that fine print on the banners is useless to do ... and apparently the 'Op Out' functionality is not happening as PUSH notices shows battery drain on Battery Doctor and Battery Usage.

A program has to be running and making my iPhone 'talk' on the cellular data stream when I am not using it.

At least with a Force Quit function on the IPhone like on the iMac ... not only would Force Quit show me all current activity and also show me what is running and not responding ... as that certainly does happen on the iMac .. more so since OS 10.10.4 came out.

Do not have data room for the Force Quit function in the iOS software ... one can always toss away Apple Apps and make them voluntary to have instead of mandatory to have in taking up data space.

Certainly make diagnosis of problems such as this much easier ... as tossing away all the apps except for Phone and Messages Apps which is the only two things I use the iPhone for ... would help define where the problem is. Since the App being gone, it can not be that App which is the problem. If the problem gets fixed when the App is removed .. then maybe; just maybe ... it is that App which is the problem.

iCloud works just fine over WiFi. It will back up your data at hight while the phone is on charge so battery life is not an issue. And BlueTooth and WiFi, when not actively connected, don't actually use much battery life. Once again, Battery Doctor is giving you bad advice.

The poster you responded to apparently hates everything about his or her iPhone. As seen in many posts. I have seen more "problems" posted by this user than the sum of all users with issues over the past 8 years of participation in ASC iPhone forums. So either the user does not actually have an iPhone and is just a troll, or...actually, I can't think of any other possibility.

If I had a device with that many problems I would get rid of it and get something else.

Yeah, I'd picked up on that. Every once in a while, they same something so egregiously wrong, I feel an overwhelming need to make sure it doesn't stand uncorrected. I'm considering seeking therapy for this compulsion. 😉
