So I made the mistake of updating too.

The music player is slow to open (I am on an iPhone 5S) looks crap and then to cap it all off today I was unable to play any songs from my own music. Restarting had no effect.

Apple sort it out. I have been on iPhone for a good 5 years or so but I am so sick of Apple forcing things on me either through iTunes or their iOS updates that it might be time for me to explore Android.

I've been having the issue. This is all through my iPhone. For no apparent reason Apple Music will just stop playing my music (usually when I try to start a new album that I don't already have locally saved), and then the window for signing up for the service will pop up. I kinda hope they get it fixed. I don't mind restarting my phone once a week or so, but more than that is unnecessary.

I realize I'm not actually PAYING for it yet, but this doesn't bode well for once the billing starts.

I have solved this problem - in another situation

I had that EXACT problem with the multimedia player in my car. I had copied music across to a thumb drive, then uploaded it to the Solid State Drive which is part of my car's multimedia system.

I found that this incessant skipping with no playing was related to me having old Apple DRM protected files. I had to rip my CD's again and delete all individual songs which had the extension (.m4p - "p" for protected). Once I had a "clean set of files the problem went away. If you have iTunes match you download most of your files again in the new Apple lossless format I believe. I did not have a problem with "new" (.m4a) files.

I switched to Spotify a while back mainly because of iTunes software being such a pain but I thought I would give Apple music a try as it was free for three months but after this latest problem I'm already back on Spotify. To be honest the Spotify desktop software is buggy but their web browser version is fine and so are their mobile apps and you don't have to jump through the usual Apple Hoops to get some music to listen to. Sorry Apple, I tried to love you again but they ended up reminding me why I left.

Ok, I'm pretty sure the problem is on Apple's side.

Despite what I said earlier, Apple Music doesn't quite work on my Windows machine or Phone properly. What threw me was that it did play the track I tried, but a couple of tracks later it went it 'skip' mode. For example I selected the 'Into to Stevie Wonder', the first track 'Superstition' played correctly it then proceeded to skip all of the other tracks.

So all I can say is that it doesn't seem to work at all on my updated Air, and works occasionally on my phone and Windows. Also tested on iMac running 12.2.0, happily skipping every track selected.

Right now I'm back to Spotify and will see if the problem corrects itself.

If you've got the same problem make sure you turn off auto renew for Apple Music, it's set to automatically renew by default.

I had this problem briefly today, *but* I just solved it for me on my iPhone 5S.

Tried playing songs streamed from Apple music, timer sat at 0:00.

  1. Went to my account in Music app and signed out.
  2. Did a full shut down / start up.
  3. When the phone started up, it asked me for my Apple ID, saying if I wanted to play the song I tried to play *before* restarting.
  4. I cancelled, went into Settings -> iTunes and App Store and logged in.

Everything is back to normal. I was about to get jittery from withdrawal. Hope it works for you. The problem seems to be device specific, my iPad and iTunes on the Macs were not affected, just the iPhone.
