iOS 8.4 battery drain
I seem to be witnessing a drastic battery drain after the update to iOS 8.4. It's pretty bad, but I don't see anyone else talking about it.

It is concrete in my mind ..
On that, at least, we agree.
I am back to normal (purchase iOS) battery usage.
Had it fully charged at bed time ... and woke up 8 hours later and it was at 97 %.
Only 3 % power loss on stand by dark screen ... so that makes for 4 -5 days of standby power available for calls and texting.
That is neat .. I like that a LOT !!!
Only thing I did was the recommendation insight of other Apple iPhone owners of the 5 series who said .. turn off iCloud and basically get rid of 'Find my iPhone' thingy ... and so I went all the way with it.
I turned off cellular data on EVERYTHING .. except the 'Settings App' ... turn off cellular data for Settings and the iPhone goes to heck.
If I want to use AAA Emergency Service ... or my ICE Blackbox for crimes in progress ... or Maps, Open Table, Fandango ...
what ever I need - I go Turn it ON.
Plug and Play is not for me, I can't afford it ...
Glad I do not have a new iPhone today .. $1000 a year Verizon Service for making the 6s work is to pricey.
The People in the $100,000 a year take home income .. that is only 1 % of their yearly pay check.
Not a problem for them.
So there are lots of people who will buy Apple ... and there is not to worry.
🙂

That's very foolish. Should your phone be stolen, it can be reactivated by the thief. Without iCloud, you'll need to make sure you're taking the initiative and backing up your data as it won't happen automatically.
Plug it in at night. It will be fully charged and ready to go in the morning.
I never use iCloud for anything ... and always back up the iPhone and Contacts through iTunes to my iMac.
Apple tells me to unplug the iPhone when it is charged up .. and to not leave the iPhone plugged into the USB chain when the iMac is turned off.
Basically charge up the battery and leave it alone until it gets to 50% but not under 20%.
I do not like using the wall plug for charging and would rather use the USB port on the Kenwood when on the road.
I will use the wall plug as a last resort if the other USB options are not available, but since they are I prefer them as my own quirk I guess.
If I turn off the iPhone, it is guarantee that the fingerprint IDs (#2 and #3) will be lost when I restart it.
When I update the Apps on the iPhone through the USB chain on iTunes .. also is a guarantee of the fingerprint IDs (again #2 and #3) will be lost shortly thereafter .. iPhone plugged in or not.
So to keep the fingerprints around the longest .. is never turn the iPhone off and never update Apps unless it is necessary.
With this constriction in the iOS and how the iPhone operates on my 5s ... I get the longest battery life with everything turned off and the least amount of headache by never doing a power down as long as the phone and texting work.
So far ... I am still 'signed in' with iCloud if that makes any difference.
So I be sure the iPhone is not stolen .. and if it is then I am out $149 I guess as I will tell Verizon to stop the iPhone service for that MEID number, etc.
I am no longer using the iPhone in that instance, and I have a police report of it being stolen.
Since I am no longer using Verizon; so no longer paying the bill goes with that; which I will inform the Credit Reporting Agency and submit evidence for them to keep on file.
Verizon can take me to court if they like on the contract being fulfilled.. etc ... which I do not think a Judge will force the payment on a bill for services not rendered if they do take me to court which will cost them big money to begin that nonsense.
The thief stole from Verizon as well as from me.
I have no insurance if it is stolen ... and I do not want a $1000 a year bill to make any replacement iPhone work as it will be new service then.
So it is back to Wall-Mart ... and setting up Dinner appointments the old way ... checking the newspaper for movies .. going to AAA for paper maps ... etc ... etc ... etc.
If my iPhone is stolen .. I see it as win - win - win for ME !!!

Where does Apple tell you that? It will not hurt the phone to leave it plugged in overnight.

That will not stop the phone from being sold and used abroad.
And if you have defaulted on your Verizon bill, you can rest assured they will report you to credit bureaus and collection agencies.
Of course they will report the contract being broken to the credit bureau and the whole world ...
to which I will show the police report that Verizon was stolen from as well as I and the iPhone thief is at large.
It is just a criminal loss and will taken off on the Income Tax Return at the end of the year with all the other losses due to crime; not just mine.
I have a 'Show of Cause' ... as the victim of the crime as is Verizon is the victim of the crime.
C'est la vie mon petite shu ...

Having your phone stolen has nothing to do with your contract with Verizon. It remains in force regardless. And, no, the phone was stolen only from you, not Verizon. However, if you wish to damage your credit, that's entirely up to you.
Thanks for your support.

I am experiencing the EXACT same issue. C'mon Apple! What's the deal. None of my settings or apps have changed since I did the iOS 8.4 update.
There are 114 replies in this thread, with about a dozen different issues raised. Which one is the EXACT issue that you have?
It might be more productive to post a new message rather than adding to a 4 month old thread.
Also, are you here to rant, or to find a solution?
I really am looking for a solution. My battery life has decreased tremendously. I work full-time and part-time and the battery life does not last as it did before I updated to iOS 8.4. All of my settings are the exact same. I have not added any new applications. I just want the battery life to last like it did before.
What was your battery life, and what did it decrease to?
The problem is not 8.4 per se, but the update process could have broken an app. So you need to do some detective work. Go to Settings/General/Usage, click on Battery usage, and look at the Standby and Usage times. If they are the same there is some app that is stuck in a loop, possibly trying and failing to process a data upload or download. Then note which apps are using the most energy as a hint on what to look further for.
I have the same problem Travis as well as always losing fingerprint ID every time I USB port the iPhone 5s/32 into my iMac for iTunes to play with it. My battery life went to dead in 24 hours where before it would easily last 80 hours.
Nothing works on fixing my iPhone iOS 8.4 and there is no going back (I would PAY MONEY to get back to the older version) no matter what I do (been to the Genius Bar three times and even had them install the iOS off their Apple Store Macbook Pro) except doing one thing that did fix it .. as a work around to what ever the real problem is.
The fix I have come up with .. is to turn every thing off. I took me 90 days of ownership (this is my first and last iPhone I will own) to educate my self on how to turn the phone off with the installed software. The Apple Apps you are not authorized to delete are always on (even if you turn them off) or so says Lawrence and I trust his learned opinion on the matter. The other Apps you are authorized to delete have advertisements galore and are mostly a headache to use.
By turning off Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Cellular Data and the Personal Hot Spot along with shutting down iCloud there is now a return to the prior performance I grew accustomed to and used to think highly of Apple Inc .. but Cellular Data is the big power consumption with the iPhone always being pinged like it was a Jet Airplane and having to talk back what ever Apple Inc was making enquiry on even if you turned it off in the Apple Apps ... it is still on.
The Settings App that controls the Settings .. has a Cellular Data off switch in it .. but keep that one in the 'on' position. Turning that Settings App off makes the iPhone not work for spit.
However the work around of turning off Cellular Data allows for phone calls and text messaging and the added benefit with Apple Inc no longer being able to ping my iPhone and data transfer.
However to use any of the Apps you want to use, then you must turn on Cellular Data for them to work.
Which I do when I have to use an App such as AAA Road Service, ICE Blackbox or Maps and when done .. turn Cellular Data back off.
With this scheme I am back to 1 % of power consumption an hour ... or 80 hours (3 days) of standby mode like before and then charge up the battery as it is not suppose to go below 20% charge.
Still performance is the same as before.. texting is very little energy needs and phone calls suck it down fast .. as I live in a rural area and the reception is about 1 out of 5 on the Verizon scale of signal strength.
No more updates for me .... I will not go to iOS 9.2 now is it ... besides I heard it went designer color 'Pink' from other iPhone owner reports.
That being said, my work around for losing the fingerprint IDs all the time with the iTunes hookup .. is to delete the fingerprints and do them up again, which makes me good for weeks or as long as I do not have to use iTunes to back up my iPhone information or put new music in.
Losing the 'Find My iPhone' function hurts .. but I can always ring up my number my self for a jingle locator.
So it is not so bad ... the other silver lining is if the iPhone is stolen then I get to file a police report and bail out of my Verizon contract for cause. As the theft was to steal from Verizon as well as stealing from me.
Accentuate the positive ... eliminate the negative ... bring cheer to your life.

I have this issue as well. my battery seems to be dead on arrival. I went and bought a new cable today for my adapter from the apple store and now I can not even get into my phone. Please help. I haven't used the cloud before, but i've just created an account on my pc and i would like to know if there's any way that i can import the photos from my device while it is not on? Any other way?
