iTunes keeps interrupting when working offline

iTunes keeps popping up the dialog window saying "We could not complete your iTunes Store request" every once in a while when I'm working offline. Apparently iTunes is doing something in the background periodically, and shows this error everytime it fails to connect. I don't mind iTunes doing its things in the background, but I don't think it's good UI design to bother the user about failed connection requests done automatically by a background app.


Is there a way to disable this feature?

MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2014), OS X Yosemite (10.10.4)

Yes - This happens to me too and I HATE IT! I do a lot of writing offline and I like to listen to my iTunes music library while I'm working. I do not want to be bothered by an iTunes pop-up telling me it cannot connect to the iTunes store. I am not trying to connect to the iTunes store. I already know that I'm not connected to the internet. If someone knows of a fix for this I would like to know about it. Or if Apple fixes this I would like to know about it.


We live in an ever increasing internet dependent world but you should still be able to use your devices offline without issue.

There's a recent thread about this -- which I can't find at the moment, of course -- in which a few people who were experiencing this problem posted follow-up comments reporting that the problem had eventually fixed itself. FWIW, this is exactly what happened to me -- I was plagued with "We could not complete..." notices for a few hours, then it stopped.


I don't recall that anybody figured out exactly what was causing the problem, or why it went away. Another iTunes mystery.
