Back of Watch fell off

This morning when I took my Apple Watch (sports version) off the charger, the back stayed on the charger while the rest of the watch came off, connected to the back through a small ribbon cable. The back just fell off.

I use the watch pretty normally - wear it during the day, charge at night, wear it running for an hour 3 times a week. Don't wear it in the shower or anything like that.

I can place the back on the watch but it eventually just falls off again, and I'm sure the moisture seal is shot.

Looks like the back is just glued on and prone to falling off. Even my relatively ugly Pebble Watch used screws and a rubber gasket. Apple just squirted a bit of glue around the edge, pushed the back on, and called it a day.

Hey brother... I am from Nepal. I bought an apple watch but the back side of it is coming out. Don’t know how it came out. I kept it on charger the next day i saw the back part fell of while removing from charger. I know there is replacement of apple watch from Apple although retailers don’t provide those services. Please show me the way to do the replacement process.

from my experience this is a glueing issue due to sun cream and overnight heating from the charger .. hope they have improved this with the changes in Series 2

Apple advises that Apple Watch (including Series 2) should be cleaned after it comes into contact with anything that may cause stains or other damage, including sunscreen.

Good advice, of course. However a) this isn't a staining issue, and b) I cleaned it regularly since the last time the back feel off and this had little or no impact on the time until this happened again with watch #4 (about 3

months each time). I suspect the issue is that sun cream that is on the skin gets under the lip of the back cover - and hence cannot be removed by cleaning. A sad state of affairs for a product I love.

The guidance also relates to "other damage", not just staining.

The guidance here also refers:

"Keeping your Apple Watch and bands—as well as your skin—clean and dry will maximize comfort and prevent long-term damage to the watch. This is especially important after workouts or exposure to liquids such as sweat, soap, sunscreen, and lotions that can cause skin irritations."

Cleaning your Apple Watch - Apple Support

As I said in my previous post, I followed the guidelines for the watch in terms of cleaning for the 4th watch - and it seemed to make little or no difference in how long it was until the back fell off. It is great you are trying to be responsive in this community - but be a little careful you do not alienate your loyal customers (I've owned every iPhone Apple has made and most of the Macs as well) by implying it must be their fault. The watch is the most personal device Apple has ever made - and as such it must be useable by people in the way the go about their lives. As someone who has had skin cancer, I need to wear sun cream. I follow the guidelines, and the back still falls off. As an engineer, this seems like a design flaw that will affect at least some section of the user base. Not considering this possibility (and just implying the user is at fault) does not serve Apple well.

My husband is on his third watch after back came off - the back of mine came away this weekend so I too will be expecting a third one. No reason for it happening to mine as we were in a cold climate so sun cream not required. Do think this problem should be more widely publicised so that Apple do something before people are put off buying the latest Apple Watch 2

Apple does not participate here in the forum. This is a user to user support forum. If you wish Apple to do something about it, you need to either let Apple know about your issue with the feedback link here, http://www.apple.com/feedback/watch.html or contact Apple Support to have the look at the watch. They will make a determination on what to do after looking at the device.

I had this problem also with the 1st gen SS 42 mm Watch, the back stuck on to the Charging puck and the cable disconnected making the watch essentially non functional. Earliest appointment from the Apple website was at a BestBuy otherwise a week wait, BestBuy didn't tell about using the AppleCare exchange/return program, but I would be updated in 2-3 days and would be ready in 5-7 days. It then became "lost" for a few days neither BestBuy or Apple knew where it was. On day 10 BestBuy called at it was ready for pickup, their GeekSquad app showed the same screen as Day#1!! Anyway, Google shows that this watch back falling off during after charging problem is pretty widespread, sometimes the backs have come off 4+ times!!

So my plan is to use a waterproof, temp resistant metal to ceramic glue around the back(not opening it) the best I think is the Locktite Stik N'Seal Extreme Conditions Adhesive (1360784) from Amazon. Strange to have to do this with a nearly $800 watch (w/AppleCare) but eventually the warranty will expire.

Interesting picture - for you it was literally the back of the watch that popped off. For me it was the glass front. I'm wondering if there are two separate problems going on here - yours being somehow associated with the charging process (heating up in back?) and mine being associated with the glue that holds the glass covering to the body of the

Seems that either nobody knows about how to contact Apple about their problem, OR six months into this thread and

23,000 something views, Apple no longer cares enough about their customers' experience and/or their product quality control.

I don't have a watch, but it puzzles me that an Apple product of $700 requires a customer trying to glue it back together

to get some satisfaction. And it seems to suggest that a Samsung epic-fail-type fiasco is not too far away in a vital product line.
