Back of Watch fell off

This morning when I took my Apple Watch (sports version) off the charger, the back stayed on the charger while the rest of the watch came off, connected to the back through a small ribbon cable. The back just fell off.

I use the watch pretty normally - wear it during the day, charge at night, wear it running for an hour 3 times a week. Don't wear it in the shower or anything like that.

I can place the back on the watch but it eventually just falls off again, and I'm sure the moisture seal is shot.

Looks like the back is just glued on and prone to falling off. Even my relatively ugly Pebble Watch used screws and a rubber gasket. Apple just squirted a bit of glue around the edge, pushed the back on, and called it a day.

Hey brother... I am from Nepal. I bought an apple watch but the back side of it is coming out. Don’t know how it came out. I kept it on charger the next day i saw the back part fell of while removing from charger. I know there is replacement of apple watch from Apple although retailers don’t provide those services. Please show me the way to do the replacement process.

I sure hope they do the same for my wife's watch..I bought ours a month after you and two days ago my wife's popped off..Right after the Warranty passed. My wife is very gentle so I only bought AC for mine! Regardles, No one should buy a 400.00 watch only to have the back pop off a year later. Hopefully, they will take care of us like they did you. BTW..Where are you located? GA perhaps? Pic below..

I have removed the serial number..If Apple will not fix an obvious defect does anyone have a suggestion on a home fix? I will not be paying to fix a watch that should still be in PERFECT condition. Don't get me wrong, I have a lot of apple products and most of the time they will take care of their customers but this is straight silly manufacturing right here...

Interesting picture - for you it was literally the back of the watch that popped off. For me it was the glass front. I'm wondering if there are two separate problems going on here - yours being somehow associated with the charging process (heating up in back?) and mine being associated with the glue that holds the glass covering to the body of the watch....

I had this same issue happen to me this morning when I took the watch off the charger... The back came off. I have owned my watch for about 13 months now... Lucky I had applecare and the watch has been sent in to be fixed.

My only concern now is how much will this cost to fix once my apple care runs out????

Well....my watch back fell of this evening. I spent a week trying to "fix" the fact that none of the apps that needed wrist detection were working. Then the back just came off, with part of the "glue" clearly not adhering any longer.

Appointments at the 2 Apple stores in San Francisco are hard to come by (7 days out). Since I have Apple Care, they are sending me a new one, and as long as I return the damaged one, there is no cost to me.

About a year old, normal wear & tear. No contact with water other than kinda sweating on the elliptical during my workouts.

Second time Apple Care has come thru for me - last time was with an iPhone whose home button just quit.

Hi

Keep in mind that Apple Watch should be cleaned and dried after workouts:

"Keep Apple Watch clean and dry. Clean and dry Apple Watch, the band, and your skin after workouts or heavy sweating."

From: Apple Watch User Guide > Important handling information > Cleaning and care

Cleaning instructions follow in the same section of the User Guide and are also provided in the linked article below.

I am on my fourth Apple Watch. Each time the back has fallen off as described in this thread, after one to five months. Twice, I have taken it to the store and they have sent it in for repair. Once, they replaced it immediately in the store. That was the time I walked in swinging the watch pieces in a transparent plastic bag. Each time I hear "wow, we have never seen it do that before!". This is getting old.

As of this week, I have a new problem. Apparently the back has separated once again and allowed water into the watch. I can't wait to see what happens when I return it this time.

I had my Apple Wach when they first came out. Wore them everyday. The only time I took it off was for overnight charging.

The back fell off today. I almost passed out when it happened. After Google "Apple Watch back loose" and found my experience was not unique.

I did not buy AppleCare because none of my Apple products ever failed. After reading what Apple had done for other Apple Watch owners, I decided to take a chance with super glue.

I used a needle to dabble some super glue around the ring. Then snapped the back on and held it tigh for a minute. Put it on the magnet charger. The back came right off.

This time, instead of dabbling, I let the drop form on the needle head and drop it on the ring. After 6 drops around the ring, I snapped the back on and held it tight for a minute. Put it on the magnet charger. Separate them. The back did not come off.

EVerything on the watch still works.
