Wow. Great round-up!

I would also add Vox for music. Vox is a cool player, works on Mac & iPhone. Using it and Swinsian too.

For transferring files there's WALTR, decent iTunes alternative for Mac & Windows. So if you use it in concert with Vox or Swinsian – you basically doesn't need iTunes.

You also missed iMazing and iExplorer in your list. But other than that – it's a great round-up!

There are few alternatives to iTunes. You could review them but they will not offer syncing support to Apple i-devices or connectivity to iCloud/iTunes Store.

aTunes* - http://www.atunes.org/?page_id=6 Check about additional components required for full features.

Songbird (no longer updated, see Nightingale) - http://sourceforge.net/projects/songbird.mirror/

*Run under Java 6 which may be slower.

I thought it would be a good idea on my Mac to have a complete alternative to the iTunes library. A separate library with its own player. I.E., one that you buy from another vendor, install and then import copies of all of your iTunes files. i know it would take up a lot of space, but I've got it. You see, I think it's a royal pain in the butt to have to restore iTunes from a Time Machine backup whenever an iTunes update screws up your files. I back up my stuff on an external drive, but I don't really want to use it unless there's a major problem with my Mac. Plus, if you have to restore iTunes on your Mac, you also have to do the same with your iPads and iPhones. That has been a pain in the neck. Having another completely separate database with its own player and functionality sounds like a good idea to me. I just have not found what I'm looking for yet.

I'd rename this topic to... Build Your Own iTunes (with stuff that you actually need) 😉

Since iTunes is bloated... with all the stuff cramped into it. I decided to build my own 'iTunes', that consists of separate apps to manage my devices and plays songs.

I'd recommend the following apps that do 1 thing but do it REALLY good and fast:

  1. Listen to music, with VOX music player (it's in the App Store). It's kind of like winamp for windows. Simple and plays any audio.
  2. Stream music with Spotify/Apple Music/Pandora and so on...
  3. To Sync/transfer music, videos to iPhone (or any iOS device) with WALTR. The interface is pretty easy. Just a drop-zone in which you drag and drop your songs or videos and they show up in your native players on the device. Pretty handy, especially if you're not on your personal computer or you're in a hurry before a flight.
  4. I use Waltr to put ringtones on iPhone as well.
  5. To export the data, I use iMazing.
  6. And to play stream media to my Apple Tv, I use Beamer.

P.S.

this is just MY personal list of apps. If you guys think there's something easier or better let me know.
