iTunes Doesn't Recognize iPod (5th Gen Video 30Gig)

My iPod was working fine until I deleted songs that were all duplicated (using Anapod) and then discovered there weren't any songs left on my iPod.

I synced it back to iTunes and this messege popped out
"iTunes cannot read the contents of your iPod..etc etc" The gist of the message was that iTunes couldn't read my iPod and after I clicked the OK tab, the page sort of freezes and I can't click restore, so, its not possible for me to restore my iPod!

I've tried everything! Re-installing iTunes; disconnecting USB ports; resetting iPod nothing works.

AND

I have 15 video podcasts. in the Settings area, it says i have 15 but when I go to the menu section in the podcasts, i have 30! all duplicated!

so..

1. how do I restore my iPod
2. how do i get rid of the duplicates?

Yes i've installed the latest version of iTunes. After trying to fix it through looking through forums etc I spoke to HP technicians who couldn't help, microsoft technicians who told me to come here! And finally Apple technicians who told me that iPods won;t work on 32-bit vista and to try upgrade to 64-bit, so then i called HP again to see if my laptop was capable of 64-bit vista however it is not so now im just going to "upgrade" back to xp seeming it causes far less problems than vista.

My Itunes reads the serial number, but only charges the Ipod. I recently had a system crash and had to have my computer redo loosing all my files. Now I try to reload a new Itunes from my Ipod, and it only reads the purchased songs from Itunes, and not any of the songs I put in Ipod myself from cd's. I have over 8000 songs in Ipod, and 2900 of those were purchased from Itunes. Does anyone know how to do a full transfer from the Ipod back into Itunes. I have contacted Apple and the tech ended up hanging up on me.

I was having the same problem. I just downloaded the newest version on itunes and for some reason my ipod would not sync. I was reading throught the fourm and trid a sugestion. All I did was press "Crtl,Alt,Delete" while I was in itunes. I chose the "end now" button while itunes was highlighted and opened itunes back up. It finally read my ipod and began to sync my new music. So, I hope that this will help anyone that needs it.

Hey everyone,

Similar problem, except now its branched onto another disfunction. Since Itunes wouldn't recognize my iPod due to the aforementioned problem, I unplugged and attempted to reset it pressing the menu and middle button down. However, now my iPod is continuously resetting itself. Without me touching it, you can hear the hard drive starting up and the silver apple logo flashing on screen, then it shuts down and repeats the process. I have tried resetting it again, plugging it into my MacBook again, plugging it into another computer, etc. This is so frustrating. In essence, because of a bug in Apple's own iTunes 7, I'm going to have to shell out another few hundred for a new iPod!!!??? This is enough to make me think about a Zune....so if there are any Apple tech's reading this thread, please notice you just might lose a huge portion of your LOYAL customers if you don't show at least some kind of concern...anybody have any ideas about my iPod though??

My problem is similar. See my broth just got the new little video ipods and i have an older nano (the metallic ones) and when i try to open up his library and plug in his ipod, the itunes says that it doesn't recognize it. Is this because they are two completely different ipods? I thought you only had to have one library on the computer, but do you need a different library for each ipod. I've tried everything else. Please help.

I have experienced the same issue here with a new iPod Touch and a 60 Gig 5th gen, and a Nano. None worked when I got the Touch unless I first started iTunes. A re-sart seemed to get things going but iTunes still does not recognize any of them automatically. I have to open iTunes first, then they show up and mount.

Could this be a Leopard bug??

I am having the same problem. This seemed to happen after I downloaded about 10 songs. I tried to connect ipod usb to macpro. I tunes will open up and then, For a split second the ipod icon shows up then disappears from the desktop followed by an itunes error code. Asking to disconnect the ipod then reconnect again. If this didnt work to try reinstalling something from the OS-X LEOPARD install disk. I will have to recreate the error message and then post it on here. More details in a few mins. thanks, xdeepsea
