iTunes Doesn't Recognize iPod (5th Gen Video 30Gig)
My iPod was working fine until I deleted songs that were all duplicated (using Anapod) and then discovered there weren't any songs left on my iPod.
I synced it back to iTunes and this messege popped out
"iTunes cannot read the contents of your iPod..etc etc" The gist of the message was that iTunes couldn't read my iPod and after I clicked the OK tab, the page sort of freezes and I can't click restore, so, its not possible for me to restore my iPod!
This solution worked immediately for me. As soon as I plugged the iPod into the computer directly instead of through the hub, my iPod was recognized. Thanks so much!
im having a problem with connecting my ipod touch and iphone to itunes, i tried everything but nothing works.. if you have solved the problem please tell me how to fix it. thanks!
*IF YOU ARE USING VERSION 7.6 OF ITUNES YOU NEED AT LEAST WINDOWS XP SERVICE PACK 2 OR WINDOWS VISTA...THAT IS WHY YOUR IPOD CANNOT BE DETECTED WHEN YOU PLUG IT IN.*
SEE I HAVE ITUNES VERSION 7.5 AND WHEN I PLUGGED IN MY IPOD CLASSIC 80GB ONE DAY TO UPLOAD SOME SONGS ON IT...MY IPOD WOULDN'T SHOW UP ON ITUNES AND A MESSAGE WAS SAYING MY IPOD REQUIRES AT LEAST ITUNES VERSION 7.6 TO WORK.
SO I TRIED DOWNLOADING WINDOWS SERVICE PACK 2 FOR MY WINDOWS FROM MY WINDOWS UPDATE IN THE START MENU...AND AFTER IT FINISHED IT SAID I WAS UPDATED ALREADY. SO SINCE THAT **** DIDN'T HELP ME, THERE WAS A LINK WHERE YOU COULD BUY THE XP SERVICE PACK 2 CD IF YOU COULD NOT DOWNLOAD IT...WHICH I COULDN'T. SO I ORDERED THE XP SERVICE PACK 2 CD BUT IT'S GOING TO TAKE 4-6 WEEKS. AND IF THIS DOESN'T WORK....I'M GOING TO BUY WINDOWS VISTA OR A NEW COMPUTER.
I have an iPod nano 4GB 2nd gen, and my computer crashed. Now when I plug in my unit, it doesn't recognize me, and threatens to delete everything and sync with the other library I have on the computer. What can I do?
OK. I'm having similar problems. iTunes doesn't recognize my 30 G iPod, my wife's 30 G iPod, or my iPhone. All three devices cycle between being connected and disconnected. They'll charge, but that's all; they don't come up in iTunes at all. I've tried resetting all three devices - no change. Oh, and when I try to eject an iPod, the CD-ROM reader pops open instead...
I've uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes four times, tried all three USB ports, tried different cables, all to no avail.
I even tried installing an earlier version of iTunes, but it wouldn't even open; I got a message saying it couldn't read the library because it was created by a later version. Only option is to click 'OK' and iTunes shuts down, so I had it uninstall it and reinstall the current version again.
I thought maybe the USB connections had gone bad, but my camera hooks up just fine (again to each of the three USB ports).
Both iPods and the iPhone work just fine, but I can't add or remove any content.
Everything worked fine until a few days ago. I didn't change anything and all of a sudden this crap happens.
I've gone through this whole thread and it looks like lots of folks are having similar troubles, but nothing I've seen and tried so far points to a resolution.
I'm really getting ****** off - I'm just about ready to drop-kick all three of these things into the river and buy something that works..

Under those circumstances, check for a Windows drive letter confusion. (That would certainly fit with the way the CD ejects when you try to fit an ipod.) See:
After my previous post, I took all three devices to the local Apple store, where iTunes recognized them immediately upon plugging in.
It turns out that my computer (built circa 2002) has USB 1.X ports and USB 2.X is required. You can buy a USB 2.X card at any electronics store for about $25. I'm going to try that tomorow & I'll let you all know how it works out.
I asked why the USB 1.X ports worked up until this point. The store tech used the analogy of running too much current through a circuit; the circuit will handle it for a while, but eventually it'll burn out. Makes sense to me, I guess.
BTW, until today, I wasn't even aware there was a distinction between USB 1.X and 2.X. How would I even tell which version my machine has? It would be nice if iTunes said, "Hey, you've got USB 1.X. If you don't get USB 2.X real soon, bad things will happen to your stuff."...
Installing a USB 2.0 card did the trick; iTunes now recognizes all three devices. And it's much faster to sync and load, too.
If you're having this trouble, check your USB level - the fix might be that simple..
