Mac mini EFI Firmware Update-1.8 does not install

I have a late 2012 Mac Mini and the most recent firmware update is failing to install. Everything 'looks' fine, the package installs and the machine reboots. Next time I do software update, it says the package is available and should be installed.

Same occurs when installing from a manually downloaded package (i.e AppStore not participating in the update)

I have tried this booting from both the internal drive and external drives - The hardware overview informations does not change and softwareupdate still thinks I need to install it - irksome !!

Hardware Overview:

Model Name: Mac mini

Model Identifier: Macmini6,2

Processor Name: Intel Core i7

Processor Speed: 2.3 GHz

Number of Processors: 1

Total Number of Cores: 4

L2 Cache (per Core): 256 KB

L3 Cache: 6 MB

Memory: 16 GB

Boot ROM Version: MM61.0106.B08

SMC Version (system): 2.8f0

Thanks

Thanks for pointing out the memory issue. Too late to do anything about it now, but that RAM was installed at time of purchase by the store (not Apple) - I doubt they would do anything about it and in fact, it has not been a problem - been in there since January 2013.

I managed to get the EFI firmware update installed after a clean install of yosemite. I don't know why it wouldn't install before but for now the problem is solved.
