`Apple Music` skips tracks.

After updating iTunes, Apple Music (apple's new streaming service) skips most tracks. In this screen-record video (link below), all tracks are skipped on this album, but at times, there are a couple to a few tracks that work fine. I use Apple Music in Canada. I am using Apple Music during the 3 month trial period. Someone else in my household is Apple Music too. We are each using individual trials under separate accounts, not the family Apple Music pack. They are experiencing the same issue.

I live in Canada using iTunes version 12.1.16 on a MacBook Pro.

This solved the problem for me: Signing out and back into iTunes on my iPhone.

I found this solution serendipitously when working on another iTunes problem discussed here.

In more detail: I'd been having a problem with certain (seemingly random, e.g. Jumpman on What a Time to Be Alive but none of the other tracks on the album) tracks not playing on my iPhone (but playing on my Macbook). I decided to try a sign out and sign in strategy on my iPhone. I went Setting>iTunes & App Store>Apple ID>Sign Out. I opened Music which, interestingly, was now frozen on an Apple Music promotional picture of a girl listening to an iPhone. I went back to the same part of Settings and signed back in. Then I could play the tracks that couldn't previously be played (e.g. Jumpman)!

I'm on iTunes version 12.4.0.119 on a Mac in the US and have this problem.

Listening to an Apple Music "radio" station works okay (it will usually work for hours at a time) but if I try to listen to a particular album, it will play a few songs (or sometimes just one song) and skip the rest of the songs in the album.

If I turn off wifi, turn it back on, and double click on a track in particular of the album I'm trying to listen to, it will start working again for a short amount of time. I can usually listen to one track and it skips the rest. Very annoying.

This worked for me:

I logged into my wifi router and found that IPv6 was disabled. I enabled it, restarted it, and I haven't experienced any more problems since (about 10 days ago). Hope this helps.

Background:

I'm a software developer, but I'm no IT expert. I had Beats Music before Apple bought them. It had its share of problems, but Apple Music streaming would get stuck far more often. I've been having the track skipping issue as well on Apple Radio where only the first track plays, then it quickly flickers through many tracks. Sometimes an error pops up that the media format cannot be read. This problem mainly occurs on my iPhone 5 and AppleTV 4 (both with the latest OS), only on wifi, and I'm in the US (west coast). My ISP is Verizon FIOS (now Frontier), and the wifi router is also from them. Previously restarting the modem and router did not help.

I' had this issue for a few months now. Originally noticed it on my iphone playing iTunes Radio stations. Would happen intermittently. I would reboot the phone and it would work fine for a few songs then start the same skipping issue. Switching to a playlist where I had local music worked fine.

I Started using my AppleTV to play radio stations and noticed the same issue. Once it started any station would do it. If I selected music from a playlist it played fine. Restarting the appletv would fix it for a few songs then come back. Signing in and out of iTunes worked one time but then not again.

Just did the DNS change and it has worked fine for awhile now.

There is clearly some relation to DNS cache that is causing this.
