Anyone else not able to place a book order? "Unexpected error"

I have verified I have the latest photo update, closed the app and reloaded the app, and still am not able to place a photo book order. I keep encountering error message, "Unexpected error, try you order again later." I have been trying to place this order all day and keep getting that message.

Is this happening to anyone else?

Thanks!

Here are a couple potential fixes that I've come across here in the forums over time. I've no first hand knowledge on them but some have said they worked for them.

1.

1. Quit iPhoto.

2. From the Finder menu bar, choose Go > Utilities to access your Utilities folder (or press Shift-Command-U).

3. In your Utilities folder, open Keychain Access.

4. Find the "NetServices" entry in your Keychain Access window.

5. Select the "NetServices" entry and press the delete key.

6. Reopen iPhoto and attempt to place your order again.

7. You should be prompted to enter your account information if you deleted the Keychain entry successfully.

8. After entering your account information, you should be able to complete your order.

2.

Go to the System/Sharing preference pane and make sure Remote Apple Events is checked.

If it is, uncheck it and then recheck and try ordering again.

Please believe me and the other contributors, that we have tried this already, numerous times. My account held an old trusted phone number that I tried to delete but kept reappearing whenever I saved, logged out and in again. It seems to work now, after I entered another phone number in its place. Which has no impact on the Photobook order, of course.

What I did notoce, however, is that there is no longer any option regarding Express Checkout in my payment settings. I found a German forum thread from Sep 2015 confirming this for a couple of users. Another AppleID used in my family also doesn't have the option anymore (neither in the Apple Store App, nor on the website). Could someone weigh in on this?

I had the same issue with an old phone number reappearing in the optional phone entry every time I deleted it and finally tried entering my main number in the optional number entry (as a duplicate) and that is sticking.

I also tried every single suggestion here (but I also did not see a Net Services in my keychain) to no avail.

I am wondering if the email address listed in the Apple print product store under the payment info has to be the same as my Apple ID or the same as the email listed on my credit card account? In the past having different emails didn't affect my ability to purchase photo cards, but now I'm trying to think of any possible stone unturned...

At this point I am assuming the "unexpected error, try again later" an issue that has to do with one of Apple's updates having a bug.

Really want to order my cards for upcoming events! 😟

I managed to place the order now. What did it for me is deactivating the two-factor-authentication. This seems to be the update that was bugged, as I never received any prompt to authenticate my login to Photos. Plus, when I log into a browser onto my Mac, the authentication code usually is sent to that very same Mac, which somehow beats the purpose (but that's another story entirely).

Dear Opus, you have saved me!! Turning off the 2 part authentication process worked for me as well!! How did you figure out that was creating a glitch in the system? Well, I am grateful as I was finally able to order my cards in the nick of time (after hours of research, late nights, and being on the phone with Apple to no avail) and will be able to go back to ordering as usual now. I hope they fix that problem so others don't suffer needlessly and hopefully I'll be able to go back to the 2 part process at some point although that 2 part security process doesn't matter that much to me...

if the two-factor-authentication is interfering it usually helps to create an app-specific password for the app you are using, in this case Photos. Then you can keep the two-step authentication active. It helped in similar cases, see this discussion:

Re: I am using iPhoto version 9.6 and I can no longer get an email sent with a photo attached. I get an error message saying the email did not go through because the server did not reply. I can send the photo with Mail. Help!in response to Gary Kissler

This solution is for those of you using 2-step verification for your Apple ID and are using iCloud as the mail server that you are trying to mail photos with.

I too had this issue. The problem in my case occurred because I had setup 2-step authentication for my Apple ID. If you have done this then you will get the error message "the mail server did not recognize your email/password...". To solve the problem go to:

https://appleid.apple.com

  • Click "Manage Your Apple ID"
  • Verify your identity with the device you selected (if this step does not show up then you have not likely set up 2-step authentication and this is not your solution)
  • Click Password and Security in the left column
  • Click Generate an app-specific password
  • Enter iPhoto as the name of the app
  • Copy the password and paste this into the password box in iPhoto where you would normally enter your apple ID (in the mail account section in iPhoto preferences).

And...voila' (I hope)
