I just started my free trial of Apple Music today. After starting the free trial, I saw that I was supposed to back up before starting Apple Music. A little late for that, don't you think? Anyway, after the three month free trial ends, what will happen to the music that I had on my device before starting Apple Music? Will it be deleted?

At the time that wasn't the case; nor is it now. You can and could delete the music if you didn't have a subscription by going to settings.

So the music will still be there and when I pay again the music will be able to be played am I right
Go to Settings > Music > turn "iCloud Music Library" on.
I had the same problem and all of my music is back! Hope this helps!

Go to settings-> music and turn iCloud music library option. the songs which you downloaded earlier via apple music will come again.

If you regularly back up your mac, you can copy the files and move it to your HD.
