Also... the AU spec will have to be modified if AU instruments are to be able to respond to MPE data, that's going to a big chore I would imagine.

Agreed.... but you might find this interesting....

Roger Linn's assessment on Logic Pro X as a host /sound source for the Linnstrument... Especially the comments the built in plugins and voice per channel... and then about the bug regarding Poly Pressure and the EXS24...

Logic Pro X (Apple)

Overview

Logic Pro X provides a very nice combination of advantages for LinnStrument. Given that it's only $200 and that most LinnStrument owners are on mac and already own Logic Pro X, it is the primary sound source we've used in our videos.

Pluses and Minuses

+ Permits voice-per-channel operation in 5 of its built-in instruments (EXS24 Sampler, ES2 Subtractive Synth, EFM1 Frequency Modulation Synth, Retro Synth and Vintage Clav), enabled by Logic's MIDI Mono Mode. MIDI Mono Mode is accessed by clicking the small triangle in the lower left corner of each instrument's window.

+ The included Sculpture instrument provides physical modeling synthesis based on a string model. Though Sculpture does not permit polyphonic expression through MIDI Mono Mode, the nature of physical modeling permits the sound source to be fundamentally altered in a variety of ways, making it well suited to LinnStrument's 3 dimensions of control.

+ Our downloadable project file for Logic includes lots of useful sounds, many of which were used in many of our videos including Pedal Steel Guitar, Blues Slide Guitar, Blues Harmonica, Polybend Arpeggiator, 3D Expressive Beatbox and Pulse Synth Improv.

- With the exception of the EXS24 Sampler, the polyphonic expression made possible by MIDI Mono Mode is limited to two dimensions-- pressure and pitch bend (x-axis). Only EXS24 also permits use of polyphonic Y-axis messages from LinnStument.

- EXS24 Sampler contains a bug: for single channel sounds only, all Poly Pressure messages are mixed together, preventing polyphonic control of pressure. However, this problem does not exist in voice-per-channel operation.
