Itunes 12.2.1.16 The song titles disappear when selecting tracks in Artist or Album view and only return if you right click and uncheck selections????

Just upgraded a few days ago to 12.2.1.16. I have been having a lot of problems.

If I highlight an album by clicking on it, then right click and select the "Check Selection" option, album track titles will begin to disappear as I select individual tracks within the album. The only way the track titles will return is to right click on the album art and select "Uncheck Selection" and all the track titles return.

Another problem is the order in which artist names are sorting in "Artist View". Artist with the same first name are sorted incorrectly by first name only, so the order they appear in the column on the left is not correct [example: John Mayall, then John Coltrane, then John Lennon, then John Fogerty...etc.]. If you switch to Album View, the sorting is correct.

Oh yeah, I need to mention ITunes keeps locking up. If I select an album, then right click on "Get Info" and make a change and click "OK" ITunes will lock up and "Task Manager" will show that ITunes is "Not Responding" I have been working with Apple Tech Support and have tried a fresh re-install but this does not fix my issues.

My computer is a new [4 days old] 4th gen Intel I5 based system running an Asus 97 - Pro motherboard with 16gb of ram. The O.S. is Windows 8.1.

The iTunes installers section of the user tip has direct links for every installer back to 11.4 if you want to try to locate an older build that works correctly. Note however that your current library may not open in a previous build. You can use the method in Empty/corrupt iTunes library after upgrade/crash to restore a dated version of the library compatible with the build you've installed. You can update the library with new media, but you lose ratings, play counts and playlists created since the archive file was made.

Well, I uninstalled everything and used the "older video cards" exe but I am still encountering the same issue. Maybe it's a windows 8.1/10 issue. I don't know. I am out of options. I guess I'll just have to live with it. Don't know what else to do. Troubleshooting with Apple will just walk me through all the steps you have given me and other stuff that I don't think will fix the issue. Hopefully enough people will complain about the issue and it will finally be addressed.

I just wanted to add my experiences also. I'm running the latest iTunes on Windows 10, everything is up to date. iTunes is running very slowly, especially when scrolling and opening an album to view its tracks. It often crashes, all of my albums have been re-sorted under the wrong artists for some reason, iCloud changes are not saved and keep reverting back to incorrect artwork and information, the store is very slow at opening pages despite a good internet connection, a plethora of graphical bugs and glitches are among a few issues that I've had.

Even on my old iMac, things aren't much better, as all of my downloaded iCloud music disappeared so have to re-download all, wrong artwork etc, but the Windows version is the worst version by far. I've been using iTunes since around version 5 or 6 (when it came on a disc!) so like to think I'm somewhat of an experienced user, but this latest version really needs sorting out.

If it wasn't for needing it for syncing my iPhone, I would have ditched it a long time ago. I have discovered a third-party music organiser/player that blows iTunes out of the water, but obviously can't sync iPhones with it. I won't name as I don't want this post to be deleted. It just shows what iTunes could and should be, not this mess from such a large corporation such as Apple. Don't they test software anymore these days?

Can you IM me here with the third party software? I too would love to try it if it will keep my library sorted and working properly. I like iTunes, but it hasn't worked right since version 9 or 10 I think. I will probably be starting anew with Windows 10 or maybe even Windows 8 (software so glitched and poorly developed that MS had to skip an entire version.... smh). I would much rather have a MAC of some type, but unfortunately I can't afford one at the moment. I am just hoping that Apple will fix iTunes, but I doubt it will be fixed. If there are 100 out of 100,000 people having the issues we have, it's not important enough to address. Maybe if 1,000 people had the issue then they may perk up their ears. Of course, if I were running a business, I would want to please all my customers, not just the ones who's software is working just fine. I would address any glitches or problems. But hey, that's just me.

It is probably a combination of context and who else is following the same threads. Anybody who has reached level 2 (150 points) can report posts they think breach the terms of use. No doubt some report more than others, and have different views on what they consider reportable. The moderators are supposed to apply the rules consistently, but that obviously isn't easy. Bad mouthing Apple is more than likely tolerated to a degree. Apple can handle a little criticism.

Ok, turingtest2, here's some new information. This is indeed Apple's issue, not its users. I will tell you why. I bought a brand new hard drive, installed Windows 8.1 64bit from scratch. Installed iTunes 12 64bit as well. It's still doing the disappearing songs deal when you right click on the album. This has got to be an iTunes issue that REALLY needs to be addressed. This is a brand spanking new installation of Windows. And Windows 8.1 at that. I was using Windows 10 last where this was happening. It can only be the fault of the program, not the user. Unless there is something in the graphics software that hates only Apple products but loves everything else? But that is REALLY stretching. Anyways, I confirmed it is indeed Apple and not the user so hopefully they will hear of this, see this, or however they find out, get on the ball, and fix iTunes. I am trying to be optimistic here, but it truly is hard to do when it hasn't been fixed for quite a long time.

Given the silent majority of happy users it is more likely that iTunes and your graphics drivers are not getting on rather than a general problem. If it were happening to everyone the boards would be full of reports. For Apple to start working on a fix they first have to know something needs fixing. You can report the issue via the relevant feedback form, e.g. iTunes Feedback, and/or make use of Apple Bug Reporting. Include details of your hardware and what builds have exhibited this issue.

II still think it's Apple because I'm not having any other graphic issues with any other program, game or software. Just Apple's iTunes. And this thread wasn't opened by me but another who is having the same issue. Perhaps there are people who are using alternative programs because of the many problems with iTunes on Windows machines. Perhaps they just don't care to report them. Who knows. I just feel that this is an issue with 12 because I believe I ran 11 on the same laptop and didn't have this issue. I could install 10 or 11 to verify.

Mar 2, 2016 12:02 PM in response to aggressivility

I'm sure 10 and 11 will be fine, particularly if they worked on the same system in the past. Apparently iTunes has some 800 million users. A problem that affects any significant minority will show up here fairly quickly. I'm not saying you are alone, but this issue seems rare enough that it may well not be on Apple's radar. I'd expect a combination of factors to be involved some of which will be common to those affected. I cannot report it since it isn't happening to me and I cannot test any settings that might affect the behaviour.

Turingtest2, I installed iTunes 12.3 on my desktop PC, which has a brand new hard drive, new motherboard and still sporting a very good graphics card. Now, I know I had iTunes previous versions on this PC as I had this PC before I bought the laptop. Those versions of iTunes worked fine, well, as best as they could anyways. Now, I am not one to continue to gripe about things but this is a totally different PC running yet again a totally different OS (Windows 7) and still the songs disappear. Could it be that it is indeed Apple's fault and they just refuse to fix it? I don't see this problem recurring on two separate systems, which have run three sets of OS'. It's just not likely that this is a user or a graphics issue. I really think this is indeed Apple's problem and I think I will be submitting a ticket to them. The chances or the odds that this is happening to the same person on two separate machines are pretty crazy. I was really hoping that this would not be the case, but even my games and other graphics heavy programs and software run smoothly and much better on this PC than my laptop, so I know it is not a graphics issue.
