Leaving my iPad plugged into the wall all night doesn't fully charge my iPad. Also, as I sit in front of my plugged-in iPad, it gradually loses its charge. There must be particular settings that improve or degrade the charging process. what are they? In other words, what's the surest, fastest way of charging an iPad?

Why not simply keep it plugged into the charger?
I do that too, but it also keeps notifications and alerts off of my older iPad without do not disturb. I just got in the habit and do it for all devices now.
I now know how to close apps. Your instructions were okay, but they just didn't sink in. Fortunately, I found a site with illustrations that clarified things. I'd post the link here, but I haven't learned how to copy and post links with my iPad. Google will probably show me, as it did with closing apps.

To Philly Phil and everyone else who chimed in, I don't know which of the many suggestions finally fixed my problem, but my iPad is finally charging. However, it's better than that. I bought a new 27" iMac, so now I won't have to use the iPad anymore. That's a really great development, I really disliked the iPad. In the future, I'll only use it for emergencies. Anyway, thanks. all.

Charging a phone in Airplane mode will charge it between 5 and 10 minutes faster.
