prohibited sign at start up: error loading kernel cache (0x7)

I have an apple mackbook pro MD102LL/A, I think I got it back in 2012.

Just yesterday during start up I got I got the prohibited sign. I cant start up in safe mode and in verbose it gives me "error loading kernel cache (0x7)"

I dont even know how to safe my files since it wont let me boot it up. I've tried repairing the disk and permissions with no luck.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Reading terminal commands is not my forte. There are users here who can. What os is installed on your computer? Your post needs to be moved to the proper os forum for which I can notify the hosts to do.

I cannot help you any further other than the suggestions I already provided.

Look at your task bar on the top of your screen. Click the icon that looks like an "apple" on the far left. Then click "About this Mac". You will see a window pop open with that information.

Unfortunately that option is not there. The only options I have are startup disk, restart and shut down. If I click on get help online it gives me the option to erase and reinstall OS X Mavericks.

Host will move this entire thread to the Mavericks forum area. The users trying to help you will need to know which version os you are using. I find it strange that you do not know what os is installed. Are you the owner-admin?

I suspect you will be better off going to a repair shop since the version os is unknown. At least there, the repair techs will have the proper tools.

I am the owner, I've had it for years. I know it's kinda sad I don't know the OS is currently on. Hopefully someone in the other forum will be able to help me. But I think you're right I'm better off taking it to a shop. Thanks for trying to help, I appreciate it.
