Mac keyboard function keys on Windows 10 not working properly

I have just updated to Windows 10 from Windows 8.1 on my Bootcamp iMac and I noticed that I was no longer able to use the mac keyboard to adjust the volume, change the brightness, etc...

Would there be any way to get that functionality back? I use those keys quite often so it has been an inconvenience since upgrading to Windows 10. Any help would be much appreciated.

iMac, Other OS, Windows 10

1. Roll back W10 to W8.1 and wait for official W10 BC drivers from Apple.

2. Use System requirements to install Windows on your Mac using Boot Camp - Apple Support and Boot Camp: Install or repair Boot Camp drivers or Boot Camp: Solve Windows support software installation problems .

kfchan88 you'll want to boot to your OS X then open go to finder /applications/utilities/bootcamp. Run bootcamp and it will come up with two options, one of them is to reinstall the drivers. You need at least a six GB usb drive for bootcamp to install the drivers on and it needs to be formatted as MAC OS (extended journal). Hope that's helps!

I am having this exact same problem (s). Windows 7 Pro was working fine. I updated to Windows 10 Pro and now my keyboard lights, brightness, volume and trackpad do not work correctly. I tried downloading "updated" drivers. Apple Keyboard is showing as an installed device in Windows 10 Pro, but still not working. Apple, please, please provide a simple way to download drivers to fix these issues... or provide them to Microsoft as part of their Windows Update.

Also, the Apple Software Update in Windows 10 did NOT fix my issues either. I do not think the install properly finished and now it doesn't give me the choice... how do I make it so the Apple Software Installer will try again?

Any help is much appreciated. Yes, I have read MANY threads and nothing is working. I really do not want to reinstall my entire system again (and shouldn't have to, as everything else is working fine).

Thank you!

I have found a workaround that worked on Windows 7 after a windows update killed my function keys. There's no guarantee that this will work the same on 10, but it might be worth a shot for those still having issues. These were the steps I tried that ultimately got my keyboard fully working again.

First step, as established in earlier posts, is to get clean Boot Camp drivers from the apple website. Find the appropriate version for your mac and download the whole package. The key, at a later stage, becomes manually managing some of the OTHER drivers. I didn't have ANY luck running the all-in-one patch. More to come on that in a minute.

The first main thing I noticed in relation to the keyboard was that my computer was still "recognizing" the keyboard, but not as an Apple keyboard. It was being listed as an HID device. This meant that when I tried to delete and repair the keyboard, it was stuck in some limbo realm. So I uninstalled the keyboard on the MAC side of my computer. Pain in the butt to have to use virtual keyboards on both, but at least that freed up my keyboard to pair on the PC half as a clean install.

When I attempted to run the automatic repair on windows, certain drivers weren't installing properly. The ones that stood out were Bluetooth HID device (bad keyboard link), the Apple Broadcom Built-In Bluetooth device driver software, and the Apple Bluetooth Enabler. So, I went to uninstall or change a program and deleted the windows driver packages linked to these error messages. Then, one by one, I manually went into the Boot Camp file brought over from the Mac. I first manually reinstalled the drivers AppleBluetoothBroadcomInstaller and AppleBluetoothEnablerInstaller, This caused the keyboard section to return to my bootcamp menu and made my keyboard discoverable and linkable to my PC. However, it kept dropping and asking to reconnect. I then deleted the AppleKeyboard driver from programs and manually reinstalled just that component AFTER reinstalling the abovementioned Bluetooth drivers. This restored the keyboard typing function and seemed to properly pair it. It was now listed as a rechargable keyboard by Apple under devices. Good step.

The final step I noticed was that the little bootcamp icon was missing from my dash, so I went into Program files/Bootcamp/BootCamp.exe and clicked it so it world start running again. THIS was the step that restored the function keys to full use.

I hope that this workaround helps someone else!

Hi . I hope this helps someone. I used boot camp to install Windows 10 on my 2011 IMAC. Downloaded newest version of Boot Camp drivers and everything was loaded as planned. Except the Apple Wireless Keyboard was not working correctly. I uninstalled the drivers and reinstalled again. Still not working. After 3 days of reformatting and reinstalling Windows 10 I finally found what was wrong. After loading Boot Camp drivers A Qwerty Keyboard is loaded. Go to SETTINGS. TIME and LANGUAGE, SPEECH,REGION ,DATE. Make sure you are in your correct TIME ZONE. Then go to REGION and LANGUAGE . Make sure this is set for your Region etc. Press your LANGUAGE under ADD A LANGUAGE and this gives another BUTTON called OPTIONS and PRESS THAT . It shows ADD KEYBOARD and PRESS THAT. Find APPLE KEYBOARD and load this. Once it is loaded you can remove QWERTY KEYBOARD leaving only APPLE KEYBOARD. Every time you boot into Windows 10 the APPLE KEYBOARD is now loaded. Hope this helps.
