iPhone 6 plus touch screen unresponsive (sometimes)

I got a brand new iPhone 6 plus from the Apple Store to replace my glitchy old one.

The phone is pristine, and is up to date with the latest 8.4 software.

However, now this one is having the same issues: an intermittently unresponsive touch screen. And this weird thing the screen does sometimes where a white part at the top of the screen flashes and looks like it's trying to come into focus for about 3 seconds at a time. (Trying to describe it)

but the main issue is the touch screen stops working for no reason, sometimes I just tap the screen and swipe my finger around and it starts working again. Other time I have to keep resetting the phone to get it to work.

Its annoying, especially because it happens at bothersome times, like when I'm trying to end a call, or am in the middle of looking up something I need.

Anyone else dealing with this issue, and have a solution?

iPhone 6 Plus, iOS 8.4, null

If you have a phone case on, take it off.

I have had the same Otter Box on the phone since the day I bought it, I have never taken it off.

Yesterday my screen started being unresponsive to touch. So today I took the thick screen protector off (you know the kind thats tempered glass and the verizon employees will hustle you to buy for $20) and then I took off the Otter Box. It seems to have fixed it. ?? Its been an hour and its been completely responsive to touch.. Idk, maybe the cover was putting pressure on the phone somewhere? Hope this helps you as well!

iPhone 6+, 64 gb with Sprint. This phone was activated October 29, 2014. As a side note, this phone has a screen protector and case on the very first day. Never been dropped or close to water.

Here is a summary of the issues I have been experiencing:

-touchscreen is intermittently unresponsive. Swiping and pressing on the screen does nothing to the phone. This issue started happening Jan 2016.

-recently, I noticed this twice. Phone starts to open random apps, begins to type on it own, activates three finger tap and zooms in on screen. All this random "activity" is done without physically touching the phone. The first time I noticed this is when my phone was on my car mount while I was driving and freaked me out a bit. It seemed as if my phone was possessed or someone had access to my phone and began to start pressing randomly on my screen.

What I have done so far to address this issue:

-one method that seems to work for my phone is to press power button, putting the phone back to "sleep"

-after this, everything is functional and back to normal.

-removed case and screen protector. This does not resolve the above mentioned issues.

-Backed up phone and started to use phone without installing previous backup. Non-responsive touchscreen issue reappeared later that same day.

Apple's response:

-Made an appointment with Genius Bar. They ran several diagnostic tests. The Genius Bar representative said that I have two options, 1. replace the screen for $129. My second option is to replace the phone $299. I mentioned to the rep that this is a known issue that other users have been experiencing, where some users have said their screen/phone have been replaced free of charge because of this known issue . The rep mentioned that I should have brought my phone in while it was still under warranty. I explained to him that while the phone was still under warranty, I never experienced this issue. Why would I bring in my phone for warranty repair if it is working fine? Furthermore, he mentioned that I should have bought Apple Care. I told him that if I have known that my phone would be giving me issues after 15 months of normal use, I probably would not have bought the 6+ and continued to use my perfectly functional iPhone 5. I was so dissatisfied with his response, I decided to go to another Apple Store to see if I could get a walk-in appointment.

-At the second Apple Store, I was able to get a walk-in appointment. After waiting for about an hour, the representative pretty much gave me the same response. I'll give this rep credit, he went and talked to the tech in the back to see what they could do to help me. The tech told the rep that I either have to replace the screen or the phone, both out of pocket costs for me. His last ditch effort was to talk to him manager, after which she said that there was nothing they could do. Although there was nothing they could do for me, this rep was genuinely concerned and tried everything in his power to help me.

After my experience with Apple today, I'm am seriously starting to question the build quality of their products. I have owned, 3 iphones in the past, where only this model giving me issues after 1 year of ownership. I am really disappointed with Apple and how they are handling known issues with the 6+. I will definitely explore other companies before purchasing Apple products in the future.

We are all having the same trouble. I'm starting to think it's a problem with the storage. My 128g is the same as yours yet my girlfriend has the 64g and although it has happened, it has been extremely rare, my is multiple times daily and I've never heard a complaint from 32gig or lower. They replaced the phone yesterday and within ten minutes of leaving the store my first call came in but I couldn't swipe to answer, my daughter even tried cos maybe it was just my finger but nothing. Took it straight back and was told it was "network congestion" that was stopping my screen from responding, lol. I don't appreciate being treated like a dumbarse, so I've fixed the issue myself....my Samsung S7 arrives in a few days. I have the latest Samsung tablet and it's amazing so hopefully their phones are as good. On top of all this I went to restore it when I got home on my Mac to be told the restore data was corrupt so now I've lost all business contacts and everything else which is critical for running my business (and yes, I updated everything and got the same message)

To Apple, we customers don't like being lied to or denied to, we do however understand that sometimes you won't get it right but without the reassurance that you are working on it or to simply be called a liar, WILL drive customers away (like me). I've always had iPhones from the time they were first released but this iPhone 6 Plus 128gig HAS major issues, accept it and reassure us that you are working on it not ignoring it hoping it will go away...it won't. I have video of the problem so it can't be denied and it has been uploaded to Facebook and shared many times to warn people to stay away from the 6 plus 128gig. I even had to create this message in "notes" cos it seems whenever I speak negatively about your product on the forum, the page crashes, coincidence?? Good luck for the future, you're going to need it!

It is NOT just the 128GB. I have a 64GB. They replaced the screen on the first visit, and then replaced the phone on the second visit.

(And on the second visit, actually watched the genius bar employee who was helping me give another user (who unfortunately could not recreate the glitch in front of them) a very long run-around denying the problem.

Fun post-script: The screen problem quickly re-appeared with even a brand new phone.

Fun additional post-script: on the advice of a Chat technician, I wiped the phone and set up as new (to determine that restoring from an iCloud backup did not somehow cause the problem on the new handset)......and learned that you can't do much to set up a phone if the touch screen does not work....

I decided to go to a different store. I got there before they opened to wait and was surprised to see about 25-30 other people therefor the same reason, all 6's, all screens locking up. It was also funny to see the samsung store opposite with only two people waiting for them to open for tech support, so i had to take a pic lol.

They explained what the issue is (or so i was told)...

The 6 casing is weak and this causes the screens connection internally to be able to move and come dislodged on and off. The guy showed me his 6s and it a lot stronger than the 6 and also told me the connection has been made 64 times stronger in the 6s which fixed the issue, so i asked if Apple will do a recall and rectifythe problem and he so no, its pretty much tough luck. They replaced the phone (again) and this one is working perfectly whicj is great cos now i can sell it as my S7 arrived yesterday. Apples arrogance to tell customers that their phone has a manufacturer fault but too bad has caused me to rethink ever purchasing one of their products again. The faulty phone is what made me decide to buy a Samsung tablet rather than an iPad and i love it. Their phone is going to take me a bit to learn as I've had iPhones since they were first launched but its actually quite great.

My advice is to everyone. Don't buy the first model of anything apple releases, always wait for the s.

There is an unbelievable solution to this problem.

Apple will never ever agree to this, because the root of this problem is the length of the iPhone 6 and is related to the popular phone bending issue.

I had the same problem. I contacted support went thru forums, did everything they said (including hard resets, reset as new iPhone etc)

The apple support team also told me to run a hardware diagnostic test after which they assured me that there was no hardware problem.

So I tried to narrow down the problem on my phone myself by studying how I use it.

When I am traveling i keep the phone in my denim's front pocket, screen facing outward, phone pointing downwards.

So when i sit, bend down etc, the phone was getting slight pressure on top and bottom sides.

SOLUTION:

All I did was take the phone, turn it around (back side facing me) i slightly pushed it forward by pressing the center of the phone with my two thumbs (very lightly). The phone works perfectly fine now. Unbelievable but true.

I had this problem,

a flickering line on the top side of my iPhone 6 plus and an unresponsive touch screen

I have a silicon case on my iPhone and keep it in the front pockets of my -not too tight- jeans

I removed the phone from the case and put it on a table face down.to my surprise I found out that it had been slightly bent.

living in Iran I don't have the option of going to an apple store or use any kind of guarantee so I tried to push the back side gently to make it into the correct shape again. It worked and the phone is fine for now.

I too have having the same problem. From research that I have done, it appears to be a affecting a very large number of iPhone 6 plus users as well as those for the 6s and 6s Plus. For this reason, I can not understand why Apple has not a recall and it seems that quite a few Apple Genius techs have confirmed an issue with logic board. You would think they would had done a design modification before the 6s and 6s Plus came out to fix a know existing issue.

Make sure to take your iPhone in as soon as possible unless you purchased Apple Care for your phone. Otherwise you end up the same boat I am in now. That is to pay about $350 or more to get it replaced. Ouch, and mine in only 14 months old.

I have lost faith in quality of Apple Products, their design, and the fact they just don't seem to car about their customers and will never buy any Apple product again despite being a loyal Apple customer since the Mac Plus. Apparently they appear to have gone the way so many good companies have, down hill, doing rapidly. They just don't car about their customers anymore and have some very, very strange policies these days. You would also think a company that has made such absolutely huge profits would reward their customer base and lower prices.

The policy of making you buy a phone with the memory you want instead of using the industry standard or micro SD cards. With each jump in size of the memory you want, comes a huge price price difference compared to the same sized of micro SD cards. Some may say that micro SD cards are too slow. While this may have been true as one time, this is no longer the case. Samsung has just released a new 256GB micro SD card that has read and write speeds as fast as standard SSDs. They have seem to be adopting the is same policy for their Macs too. The current Mac Mini must now be purchase with the memory you want inside of like a iPhone. You can no longer upgrade it as the memory is now soldered to mother board.
