Cannot see ipod in My Computer or iTunes

After running Windows XP repair installation, I lost the ability to access all USB devices as Mass Storage Devices and am also unable to see them in product specific transfer applications. This includes the iPod and iTunes. The devices appear in device manager and are said to be working fine and yet they are not recognized by any application as being available. Can anyone at least help me regain access to my iPod? I've tried reinstalling iTunes and restarting the iPod but that does not make any difference.

Thanks,
Stu

Sweeeeet!!!! I stayed up all this time hoping against
hope that divine intervention would step in where
Apple left me for (brain)dead...get this, I
completely disconnected my pod and followed the steps
for a reset (toggle hold, then simultn. press menu and
the select (center) button; THEN (and this is
immediately after the system began rebooting on my
pod and I saw the glowy apple) pressed the select and
play/pause button to set my pod as a disk or whatever
manually (you'll see a throw-back check on the screen
to know you did it right and it will say 'okay to
disconnect'); THEN I plugged that tricky SOB in my
laptop and ta-da!!! Updates flyin' everywhere!!!Hope
this helps someone....

Thanks so much. I had been messing about with my computer and IPod for 2 days now with no joy - tried your solution and the sucker actually worked, cheers again

I have tried ALL steps recommended by Apple, but am still unable to see my Ipod on My Computer, or Itunes. I know that my Ipod is working as I have been able to access it on other computers. My USB ports are also adequate and operational. All my music/videos are stored on this computer, and Itunes is still operational. I have no 3rd-party software. Please help me...

Ps. I have Ipod Video 80Gb, Windows XP.

I returned my ipod and was given a new one. As I said, I bot it 2 days ago. I went to an apple store. I thought it was the cable and they tested my ipod nano on their equipment and the nano was not recognized on their system either, and that is when they said we will replace it. Suggest you go if you have access to an apple store or a qualified reseller that can test it. The techies may have another solution if your warranty is not valid.
Good luck.

Hello Folks,

I too have been having the same problem. My 60GB ipod had been working fine until I upgraded itunes to 7.0.2.16 since this "update" my ipod is not visible on itunes or my computer. I have to think it has to do with the update of itunes, therefore apple MUST offer a patch or something to fix thier update.

waiting and waiting for over two weeks now.\

Apple, give us a fix or redo your update PLEASE!

I'm having a similar problem since updating to the latest version of iTunes. I have a 30GB Video iPod and I'm finding that for my computer USB port (not hub) to recognise the ipod I have to reboot the machine each time I want to connect my ipod to the computer to sync.

This really does appear to be a problem with the latest iTunes release because I certainly did not have this problem with previous releases of the software, AND the problem only started after I installed the latest release upgrading from Version 6.

Where is Apple Support when you need them?

I hate being a beta-tester for iTunes software.

I was having the same problems, after installing the newest itunes, my ipod wouldnt show up, anywhere. I tried all the resets and everything. Then I disconected the cable from the port it had been in to plug in something else, which worked so it wasnt the port, plugged it into a different one, it worked, went back to the original one, and it worked there too. must just be a glitch that re-plugging (if thats a word) fixes. My next option was to start using my ipod as a doorstop, I hope this helps someone before they use their's.

Hello again Folks,

after reading many post about the itunes update and not able to resolve my issue I decided to call Apple. I spoke with Sophia and she had me do a few things with my ipod including connecting it to another computer. She told me that the hard drive has went bad and to send it in for repair. My ipod plays fine by itself and my docking station on my stereo. Well I dropped off the ipod at Best Buy and they are sending it out for repair to apple. I went this route because I bought the extended warranty through Best Buy, had I sent it directly to Apple they were going to charge me $29.99 Shipping.
I still think it is the new itunes software, well I'm waiting to see.
