After running Windows XP repair installation, I lost the ability to access all USB devices as Mass Storage Devices and am also unable to see them in product specific transfer applications. This includes the iPod and iTunes. The devices appear in device manager and are said to be working fine and yet they are not recognized by any application as being available. Can anyone at least help me regain access to my iPod? I've tried reinstalling iTunes and restarting the iPod but that does not make any difference.
Hello,
I've had this problem for months now, my ipod could charge from my computer, but wasn't recognized in itunes or "my computer". Turns out the problem was in the USB cable! I bought a new one and it works just fine again. Hope this helps...
Just wondering, but any of you who are on Windows XP and are having problems with your iPod, do you have iTunes 7 installed?
Also this is really bad of Apple to not even make a statement about what is going on with Window users and their iPods. Talk about losing credibility with their customers. This problem is making me hold off on getting a new iPod until these problems correct itself or I figure out what
not to do to my computers and iPod.
I have recently discoved the problem. to fix it plug in your video. go to start, click control panel, click administrative tools, then computer management, then click disk management, then right click your ipod and select, "change drive letter and paths" then select either change if its availible, or add. then select a different letter. then the ipod should auto-load itunes and work.
Hi Derek,
I'm currently having the exact same issue as you (i'm getting the Chkdsk Utility message as well) Did you find a way to solve this problem?
thanks,
Julia
