Very slow wifi downloads from app store

Since updating to 8.4.0 and then 8.4.1 apps from the app store take FOREVER to download over wifi. They work just fine downloading with the cellular network, but this eats up data. Help.

iPhone 5s, iOS 8.4.1

Same thing is happening with Apple Music. With wifi the music doesn't play continuously, it stops and starts. With cellular it play as it should.

I'm having the same issue, it's been going on a few weeks, had a couple days where the problem seemed to go away but it's happening again. Wifi through TWC and cellular service with AT&T. I've tried changing DNS settings on both my devices and router, restarted the router, restarted the devices and still no luck. Any help would be much appreciated.

Found this solution elsewhere, this fixed it for me:

Close your iTunes,

Go to command Prompt -

(Win 7/Vista) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES, right mouse click "Command Prompt", choose "Run as Administrator".

(Win XP SP2 & above) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES/Command Prompt

In the "Command Prompt" screen, type in

netsh winsock reset

Hit "ENTER" key

Restart your computer.

If you do get a prompt after restart windows to remap LSP, just click NO.

Now launch your iTunes and see if it is working now.

If you are still having these type of problems after trying the winsock reset, refer to this article to identify which software in your system is inserting LSP:

I took the DNS suggestions and had improvements to downloads, but very limited ones. I started realizing that the common theme for those with unresolved issues were AT&T U-Verse users. I went back to the AT&T Modem (that I use with a separate router from ASUS) and changed the DHCP settings away from default, which are:

192.168.1.0 / 255.255.255.0

The second option is:

172.16.0.0 / 255.255.0.0

I switched it to this second option. Keep in mind, if you switch these settings and have standard router settings of 192.168.1.254, your Internet (not connectivity between modem and router) will have no access. I changed the ASUS router (and admin link) to 172.16.2.1 and the AT&T modem/router switched to 172.16.0.1 as the new default for admin access. If you lose access to the AT&T admin console, use a laptop and connect via Ethernet (cord) and you might have to do the same for your outside router. If you don't have an outside router, I would suggest one as AT&T still uses very old (and slow) protocols, so passing to a new router has a huge impact.

You will have to renew your IPs for each device (turn off, turn on), but it will pay dividends.

These changed had an IMMEDIATE impact on my network and my app downloads. I have their 16M package and where it used to teeter around 9-11M, I am now at 17-20M on average. More importantly, my apps no longer take 12-24 hours to download. I just tested a couple of the largest apps for download (Facebook & a couple games) and none took longer than 2 minutes.

Good luck.

Seriously? Making elaborate changes on your router/DNS/whatever???

Apple is supposed to be "turn on --> works" and not "turn on --> make 1,000 changes --> make more changes --> read forums --> make anotehr 1,000 changes --> call support --> re-install intunes --> reinstall windwos --> make 1,000 more changes --> cry --> throw iOs device out of the window"

I'm using M1 Singapore with Asus RT56U router and only recently facing this problem of unable/slow download of apps for all my apple devices.. No issues with other internet browsing or speedtest. I can get 250Mbps using speedtest.

The problem currently only affecting when I'm downloading at my home wifi.. did not see this problem at my office wifi or hotspot or 4G direct download(files smaller than 100MB.. Changing the DNS on my iphone still did not help.. anyone else have any advise?

I'm based in Europe and using iPhone6 and have the same problem, but it is definitely Not the router nor the ISP. Because other devices don't have a problem with the connection at all, it's only the iPhone...

I changed the DNS in the iPhone Settings -> Wifi -> settings of the network to 208.67.220.220 as suggested in comments and it's ok now.

But customers shouldn't have to go through this, Apple should fix this asap.

It's on Apple side. Narrow international connections to some internet segments results in heavy overloads. So speed is like good old 56k dialup. Apple needs to works out those problems with external channels and needs to make a full network of mirrors hosted all around the world, like Steam has, or even most large Linux distros.
