Very slow wifi downloads from app store
Since updating to 8.4.0 and then 8.4.1 apps from the app store take FOREVER to download over wifi. They work just fine downloading with the cellular network, but this eats up data. Help.

Same thing is happening with Apple Music. With wifi the music doesn't play continuously, it stops and starts. With cellular it play as it should.
Thanks so much, Kenneth. I had to learn how to change the DNS on my iPad, but I just updated YouTube in 2 minutes! Yes! It worked. 🙂
I can't quite get this to work on my Asus router. Still playing with it, but if anyone knows how to, it is the R66 model.
BIgBear, I didn't change it on my router, I changed it in my iPad. I got the instructions here: http://www.macinstruct.com/node/452
I had the exact same issue and this is what fixed my issue.
Settings
Wi-Fi
select your WiFi SSID that you are connected to and touch the Circle with the i next to the signal indicator.
Update your DNS to 8.8.8.8
This is Google's DNS server address
Press the < arrow next to the Wi-Fi
Your Wi-Fi connection will spin(refresh) and you should be golden.
Did this on both my iPhone and iPad and everything is smooth again.
My DNS was 192.168.0.1, 205.171.3.65, 205.171.2.65 and I changed it to 208.67.222.222, 208.67.220.220 and now the updates are working. Thanks.
It is not CenturyLink. I have CenturyLink. Everything but the App Store load as fast as ever. The only thing that is slow is when I am downloading from the App Store then it is taking hours.
Thanks for the DNS idea! The change solved my problem, and now my updates are happening at a regular speed as opposed to the glacial 1MB/minute I had been seeing since earlier this week!
I've been experiencing this exact same thing since the update! Can't be my ISP because my speeds are fine. I'm on Time Warner Cable by the way. Happens with the App Store and even on my Mac Pro.
Even tried changing the DNS but same problem.
hi
even i am facing the same issue super slow app and itunes downloads otherwise my internet connection is fine . even i tried changing dns and resetting my router but the issue still persists. did yours get better or is it still the same?
thanks
II was able to resolve it using my Asus router. It isn't as straightforward as on other routers, but I am grateful to this thread. Stick with it and only make a single change at a time and don't continue downloads as you reboot the router. It will switch to cellular and appear to be resolved. Either use a device that only uses wifi or turn off cellular on your iPhone.
DNS resolution occurs on this router via DHCP and I had to play with the WAN and LAN settings a little as well.
Good luck.
I have tried both the Google and OpenDNS server changes, on my Linksys E3200 router. This hasn't solved the problem. I rebooted the router and the computer with the new DNS. I'm still getting about 1kbps ONLY from iTunes. Previewing songs, downloading songs, downloading apps. Affected on computers and devices so I know it's not the network adapter. This is also a newer issue, over the last few weeks. Haven't changed anything on the router, it's something with apple.
Any suggestions?
Make the changes on your iPhone not the router

That isn't the problem. I know this, because it's both my computer and my devices that are affected. So changing it on the device, would have nothing to do with speeding up the downloads on my computer. I also know it's not my router, because I unplugged it, and went direct to my computer.
It was a very bad idea to post your phone number to a forum read by millions of users and crawled by spammers and other malefactors constantly looking for personal information. I've asked the hosts to edit it out.
As an update, I noticed that my iTunes diganostics says secure connection to iTunes failed. Thing is, I turned off Windows Firewall and everything (to try to fix it), with no luck. So now it's diagnosing the connection failure, I think, because that's probably the root of the problem.
