Unable to find download for boot camp 6

Been trying to download windows 10 for about a week now, I see everyone talking about boot camp 6 and the download is nowhere to be found. Ive searched on the downloads portions on apples website but its not there. I had windows 10 downloaded but while using boot camp the software support files kept failing but i went ahead with the download and then once everything was booted up there was no wifi selection so I just uninstalled it. Any help is greatly appreciated with these issues>

Okay, I opened Boot Camp in Mac OS X 10.10.4 and selected to download latest drivers. After the long slow download it turned out to be Boot Camp version 5.1.5126 not 6. The Apple Software Updater in Win 10 also does not download any new Boot Camp files. I'm using an Apple SSD in my MacBook Pro 15 inch late 2011.

So how do I get Boot Camp Assistant version 6? All the driver file dates are from January 2014, basically the same as I already have installed on my Windows 10 partition. I am not being prompted for any missing drivers from within Windows - the issue seems that I need the newer set. I read in another post that the shadow copy errors I have are due to an inability of the current drivers to properly read the OS X partition files. It said I could disable the older driver and eliminate the shadow copy problem but could not access the OS X partition files. I was hoping a newer driver would eliminate this issue.

You cannot get Boot Camp 6.

Boot Camp 6 is only available to mid 2012 and newer models:

  • MacBook Air from Mid 2012
  • MacBook Pro from Mid 2012
  • MacBook Pro with Retina display from Mid 2012
  • iMac from Late 2012
  • Mac mini from Late 2012
  • Mac Pro Late 2013
  • 12-inch MacBook

Like me, you're out of luck...

However, Boot Camp 5.1.5621 (latest available for my late 2011 17" MacBook Pro) works fine with Windows 10. Just upgraded. 🙂

See Some known issues with boot camp 5.1 with windows 10 for details of Backup problem, the only issue I have found.

Enjoy.

problem downloading windows 10? you have to download this from Microsoft to a USB ,then open bootcamp and just download the latest windows support software from apple, cause you already have windows on the USB ,just follow the step, if you have issues with bootcamp set up, getting a message that say you need windows 7 , open file and install those application manually i did it that way ,and i am using Windows 10 and Cortana is amazing

I had seen the fix (above) to remove the service Apple HFS using Autoruns before, so I decided to give it a try. It does work, but removes all access to my Macintosh HD. I no longer can see that drive. I liked having access to music and photos from that partition in Windows applications but it seems that if I want to be able to do backups and restores I cannot have both. I suppose your reply above that my MBP is not supported for Win10 is why Apple won't deliver the updated drives for Bootcamp 6 to me. However, with the exception of not being able to do backups and restores, Win 10 works fine with Bootcamp 5.1.5126 (at least that was the only significant failing I've found so far). Maybe Apple will eventually come out with a driver to replace HFS functionality.

If you have a Mac identified by Apple (as above from toweri) as supporting Windows 10, go ahead and do it. According to everything I've read you will be offered to download the version 6 Bootcamp drivers when you first run Apple Update in your new Windows 10 environment. You will need the drivers to handle the touch pad, keyboard special buttons, etc. I have a MacBook Pro 15 inch late 2011 which was not in the list and am not being offered the version 6 Bootcamp drivers from Apple by any method. The only issue I've found so far is related to being able to perform system restore and backups. The fix to allow me to do that blocks the HFS access to the OS X drive which is now invisible. I can restore access by reversing the fix, but then I have the restore and backup issues again related to Shadow Copy errors.

Spediteur, you misunderstood me a bit; My MacBook Pro (Late 2011) is also not supported by apple for Windows 10. I am not offered Boot Camp 6 by any means, Apple update in Windows included.

I upgraded to Win10, successfully, but have the System Image backup issue, as you do.

Other than that, everything appears to work reasonably well.

I also run Parallels 11, to access my Boot Camp Win10 while running MacOS. Parallels SW offered the Win10 upgrade to my machine with no qualms, but I decided to upgrade under native Boot Camp. Afterwards, Parallels did not detect Win10, but retained Win8 setting (and Parallesl Tools) which caused all kinds of odd behavior until I noticed that and adjusted the setting manually. Then Parallels Tools auto-updated to Win10 version.

It seems Parallels overrides some Win10 setting (Power profile reverts to "Parallels" despite my setting "Power Saver") but these are fairly minor issues in my opinion.

Here is to hoping Apple budges and delivers fixed drivers to these older Mac models too at some point in time, so we can get the backup to work...
