Windows 10 keeps crashing using Bootcamp

Today i decided to install Windows 10 using Bootcamp. All went well and setup went smoothly. Once Windows 10 was installed, I installed the Support Software which I downloaded from the Bootcamp Assistant.

Now since installing the Support Software, Windows 10 has been crashing within the first few minutes (if even that) of starting up. Now and again, a black and white zig zag pattern will appear on screen. I'm no expert but because of this, I'm thinking this could be a graphics driver problem?

I'm also wondering if the Support Software I downloaded is up to date. Bootcamp Assistant says that it will download the latest version, but I'm still doubtful whether it's an up to date version and if I'd be better off downloading it from the Apple website.

I have a Mid 2012 MacBook Pro 15-inch running Yosemite 10.10.3

2.3 GHz Intel Core i7 Processor

10 GB 1600 MHz DDR3 RAM

Intel HD Graphics 4000 1024 MB Graphics

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

MacBook Pro, OS X Yosemite (10.10.3), null

Wow, just like that it's fixed. Thanks a lot! I could have sworn that instead of the Intel graphics driver being under Display Adapters, it was the Microsoft Basic Display Adapter before. Anyway I'm glad it's finally fixed, it's just the sound problem now.

I might sound like complete newbie, but do we need the Intel graphics driver? Would there be a time that it'll need to be enabled?

That's good news

Mine moved too to standard VGA adapter or something.

I don't think the Intel graphics card is used with Bootcamp. I read somewhere else that not being able to switch back and forth is what makes the battery go quicker on the bootcamp machine. I never cared about that.

Whether we need the driver or not, I am not sure.

One weird thing for me. Randomly when trying to update the intel driver (while I was still trying to do it), I would get a notification from device manager installing a new SOUND driver. I never saw the window, but I could see the speaker on the bottom and a green bar notifying of some sort of hardware/software installation regarding sound. This is where the computer would reboot. This is why I thought the intel driver had something to do with the sound drive (and it may still be - something to do with HDMI, thunderbolt, etc).

.

One other program I thought was going to solve all my problems was http://www.drivethelife.com/

That program seemed to scan my computer and update all the drivers. It even let me try different versions of the drivers. I tried EVERY intel driver though and either it would lock up my machine, or upon restart nothing would happen. It was this program though that was showing me the "speaker" for driver installation most frequently though.

Maybe you can give it a shot.

I would create a restore point though right now so you can always switch back to your working system!

I downloaded Drive the Life and it updated one driver, an Intel one. It wasn't for graphics though, it was something else, didn't really know what it was for but thought I'd update anyway since I created a restore point like you suggested. But that was it, no drivers to do with audio at all.

I found this thread about audio problems on Mac Rumors. It's to do with Windows 8 but I'm guessing the same rules apply.

Someone said that the problem could be that the person had done an EFI install of Windows instead of a BIOS one and that an EFI install can prevent sound from working sometimes. I'm not sure what an EFI install really is, but when I start up my MacBook and choose which partition I want, the Windows one is called 'EFI Boot', so i'm guessing I have done an EFI install. Apparently, burning the ISO file onto a disc and installing Windows from there is one way of doing a BIOS install, so I might be installing W10 again. Ahh well...third time lucky and all that.

For my 2010 MBP I was able to fix audio problems by installing the drivers here:https://www.cirrus.com/en/support/drivers/

I am also having the difficulty with crashing when the Intel HD Graphics loads or tries to. I've tried many many different drivers including ones from Intel's website, windows update, bootcamp, and as soon as any of them load it crashes and I have to use a restore point (or disable the driver from safe mode).

Sorry, ignore that cirrus logic link, this is the correct link to the macbook pro audio drivers: http://www.cirrus.com/en/support/lic/lic3.html?uri=/en/pubs/software/CS4207_Logo edDriverPackage_6-6001-1-39.zip

On the HD graphics freezing issue, under windows 10 I've tried every conceivable driver for both the HD Graphics and Nvidia GTx 330 entries and the computer only works when they're disabled, as soon as I update the hd graphics driver it will download a new one and the machine will crash. I happened to throw in an old Windows 8 harddrive I had pulled from a PC and booted up off of that one and a driver loaded for the Nvidia chip and the Hd graphics didn't appear anywhere, and it seems to work great. So maybe Windows 8 has a display driver but Windows 10 doesn't? I'm using a 2010 MBP 15 btw.
