Unable to sync playlists to ipod classic on windows 10

Hello,

I have a fresh install of Windows 10 running the latest version of iTunes. My iPod classic doesn't always show up in the device list, but when it does and I sync ALL music in my library, only a handful of playlists come over. The ones that do actually sync are missing songs. It looks like all my music transfers though. Some of these playlists are brand new and others were exported from a Windows 8.1 system and imported into Win 10.

I upgraded the Windows 8.1 system to Windows 10 and iTunes is still able to sync properly to my iPod Classic. Maybe a residual Windows 8.1 driver or something?

This looks like a common complaint with Windows 10 looking through the forum, just no real answer or fix.

Thoughts?

Very nice write up! All media is on my local desktop, except all my movies and tv shows are on my NAS. Consolidating them would be very bad. I am going to move my music folder back to C and see if I can just move my library from the old to the new, then perhaps I can just change the itunes location and hopefully playlists will update. I'm very annoyed right now since I just opened itunes on my new desktop and now see duplicate entries for EVERY song, even though the actual files are not duplicates. What is happening with iTunes!?!

Possibly a function of the way you tried to move the library and playlists. If the paths don't have to change then you can copy the library files from one computer to the other. Consolidating all content to the media folder on the NAS may be the first step that could at least let you move the database over to the new machine.

I have posts regarding duplicate songs, but I don't think you will need to use those techniques.

Ah, that one is particularly nasty. What were (or should have been) locally stored files have become treated as Internet streams. That probably explains why the playlists didn't show, as only locally stored content can be synced to a device. I'd have to dig through my post history to remind myself what I've learnt and forgotten about that issue.

It has to be said that iTunes can be a bit unpredictable when NAS storage is involved. As a rule I would recommend a large locally connected external drive as the primary version of your library, with the NAS used as its backup.
