iMessage not working after 10.10.5 update.. HELP!

Hello,

When I bring up the message application it only allows me to send a text message and not an iMessage. Also when I goto the hand off icon on the lower right of the doc for the message/chat it brings up the message window and it shows the person I am messaging with, but does not show any of the content of the message and there name is in green (for text only) not blue for iMessage, and the person I am messaging with on my phone has iMessage and I can send iMessages to and from them on my iPhone. But not on the my MacBook Pro. When I goto start a new conversation and goto input the persons name in the to box, it will bring up they and number and show that it would be an iMessage being sent, but when I select it it changes green and show it will be sent as a text message.

I have tried the above with the .plist troubleshooting, and that did not work. I have also tried logging out of all my devices on iCloud, and iMessage and then logging back into all of them.

OS X Yosemite 10.10.5

Thank you in advance for any solutions.

Hi,

I was hoping to get a pic where the number did in fact show as a Red contact in the "To" spot.

I used a number that was for an iPhone that I have since Deregistered for iMessages but my version is set up for SMS and so it thinks I can send SMS and it has gone green.

You should get the error Message " Not Registered with iMessages" at this same spot and the name or plain ID or number should be red.

If all contacts are going red or saying "Not Registered..." then the issue is most likely with the server end.

If the Serial Number is visible then this is more likely.

It is needed to use with your Apple ID and Password to "prove" you are calling from your machine.

Some people report that they have issues and only Apple can reset this.

Call Apple Support and tell them you have an Apple ID issue. These are free to fix.

The Level one responder will only be trying to solve Apple Care issues using a script.

Most likely you will have to politely ask to speak to someone higher.

At OS X 10.8.2 update (Messages 7.0.1)when the Serial Number were first used there used to be a pop up messages saying to call Apple Support and give you a code number. They could reset the server once you ad sorted out the Serial number issue.

Now when you get to the Level 2 people they still want you to make all sorts of tests and checks and may even use the Engineers and have you gathering data.

If you politely insist they reset the server for your Apple ID in relation to your Mac then they will generally tell you that it will take 24 hours.

Based on what people feed back to us here we have not found a set of words that makes this go any faster.

Basically it is a security feature that cannot be reset by the user in any way and is getting triggered for some people when it shouldn't and therefore Apple are looking for the cause but seem to be unable to find what the trigger is.

One trigger is when you migrate an whole Mac User account to a new Mac including the Keychain which is where the token is kept which then has the "wrong" Serial Number stored compared to the machine it is on.
