Apple watch black spot

I have a five week old Apple sport watch. Two days ago in the upper right-hand corner developed a round black spot. Called AppleCare Tuesday evening after 40 minutes on the phone was told I had to make an appointment and take it into an Apple store. Drove 20 miles one way to the Apple store only to sit and wait 20 minutes past my appointment time to be seen. Handed the guy the watch showed them the problem told them that it grew in size over the two days and now will not pair with my phone. He takes it in the back brings it back out and tells me he has to send it in for repair however if they find any evidence of water damage it will not be repaired under warranty. I tell the representative that I exercise and run regularly and sweat when I do and that I have washed my hands and water has splashed on the watch, he tells me that is not a problem. But he says again if there is evidence of water damage it will not be repaired under warranty! So I'm wondering what do you think the chances are they're going to call me and tell me that there's water damage to the watch???? I have read on the Internet that other people have had this problem with their watch within a few weeks of purchase and have been told a variety of reasons for how this is consumer damage namely pressing too hard on the screen or hitting the watch but nothing about water damage. The water damage excuse seems to be the latest and greatest by Apple. I have not damaged my watch in anyway shape or form and have been an Apple product purchaser and user for easily 13 years having purchased numerous iPhones iPads and iPods and never once have I ever damaged any one of those items. If they do not fix this watch under warranty it will be my last Apple purchase!

My watch has also developed this issue...

My warranty had just expired about a month before this, and I was told it would cost $249 for Apple to repair it.

I wasn’t going to add my input here until I continued to read non-helpful responses continuing to question the prevalence of this issue when searching Google. Like others have already said, for every post on this issue there are many non-posters with the same problem.

Here‘s the deal: One does not want to see a significantly-sized blemish appear — through no fault of your own — on the face of a watch that you paid $1000 for just 24 months earlier. Apple wants to compare itself to other high-end watchmakers: I cant see this type of thing happening with a Tag Heuer.

In answer to your first question, Mick, there is more than one issue with the black spot on the watch and other Apple products! in answer to your second question I didn't list my name because the whole point of this is to make this issue known to people and there really is no ability to do that with Apple. All of their forms are controlled and monitored by them there is no formal complaint system that exists Apple support is of no help for the same reason the bottom line is this if there is a problem with an Apple product a customer is just plain out of luck! Consequently it appears to me that the only recourse I have is to not buy Apple products.

You folks have mastered "The best defense is an offense!" But that doesn't change the fact that there's a problem.

I am sorry if you feel that the overall nature of the response here has been "offensive". To review:

The Apple service facility has yet to assess your watch. If it concludes that the issue is covered under warranty, your watch may yet be repaired or replaced.

If a retail store employee has misspoken (by telling you that a determination of water damage would automatically mean that your watch would not be repaired or replaced under warranty), then that is unfortunate. I understand why that could be upsetting and leave you feeling that an accusation of misuse had been levelled at you. Equally, though, it does not mean that the service facility's finding is predetermined, nor is it evidence of a policy to discredit valid warranty claims.

If you would like to complain about how you were treated, you can (and should) do so via the process that I outlined earlier. You can also let Apple know (on a one-way basis) via feedback here: https://www.apple.com/feedback/watch.html

If it provides any measure of reassurance, in my opinion nothing that has been said to you in store will have any bearing on how your warranty claim is assessed by the service facility. (Apple service facilities may, for example, determine that any given watch does have water damage. They may also determine that such water damage was caused by defective materials and/or workmanship. In the absence of any factors that would render the warranty void, such watches would still then be repaired or replaced under warranty).

No-one here has disputed that your watch has a problem. You have already taken the only action that could reasonably have been recommended here: taking your watch in for service. The next step is to await the outcome.

Apple Support Communities exists only as a place for users to seek help, from other users, with technical support questions. It is not allowed to use it as a soapbox, post rants, speculate on Apple decisions, conduct polls or do anything else that contravenes the Terms of Use.

Despite the nature of your posts (which haven't amounted to a technical support question), you have still received help, including: how to make a complaint, information about Community rules, advice to await the outcome of your warranty claim and how to contact Apple if you are unhappy with their decision, once it becomes known. I'm sorry if you are unhappy with this.

Wow, after numerous posts with insults and sarcasam, finally a post that represents what could have been posted from the very beginning, and would have if Apple employed mature people who leave their egos out of their job. Now with regard to your "solitions" nowhere is there a legitimate place for a consumer to file an actual complaint with Apple- the feedback section does not accomplish that, this forum does not accomplish that, Apple Care does not accomplish that, Apple Support does not accomplish that..... So to imply tjat there actually is a mechanism to file a complaint is misleading at best. I'm dome with this back and forth. My Basis Peak is back on my wrist and I'm done with Apple! Best wishes, John. And good job trying to save face and actually do your job. At least you finally got there.... Even if you couldn't actually help since you work for a compamy that will not allow for a consumer complaint!

WHy are YOU so invested in being "right," John. Does Apple pay you by the insult?

Which of the above is the technical support question relevant to your concern? I have been unable to find any others.

Despite that, you have received timely and accurate recommendations that you can act upon. Absent a technical support question that your fellow Apple users can answer, that is the extent of support you can expect from this resource.

Those unfamiliar with the purpose of this site occasionally misuse it to whine, rant, or otherwise prattle on regarding a complaint none of their fellow participants can do anything about. Yours is the first post I've seen on this site complaining about a problem that doesn't even exist. That's a first, even for me.

It appears you may have misunderstood what this forum is. Almost no one here is employed by Apple. John is not. The Hosts, who enforce the rules have purple apple avatars but you don't see them post much. There are also Community Specialists with black apple avatars. They respond to a specific subset of questions that have gone unanswered for a day or more.

There is a Contact Us link at the bottom right of every page. Apple's corporate address is also easily found. There is nothing to stop you from writing a letter of complaint. I suspect there are phone numbers out there you could find if you tried. But, no this is not the appropriate venue for a complaint.

I'm glad someone else has had this problem. I had a black dot/spot in the upper right hand side in June. It looked like a pixel had blown up and started to spread over time. I took it in to Apple and they thought it was interesting/never saw that. They sent it off to the support area. I got a new one in a few days.

One month later, the touch interface didn't work. It was unresponsive - no black dot/spot this time. Sent it off, got a new one.

September 2. Black dot/spot #2, just like the first. Took it in and same response. The peculiar thing is the black dot was in the same spot (upper right). Unfortunately no one has been able to diagnose the issue. I'm very careful with my watch. And other than running, I'm not that active with it as i spend most of my time typing in a cubicle. Other than nike app, i don't use any 3rd party watch apps.

So now i'm on my 4th 40mm sport watch. I'm a huge apple advocate but this *****.
